Continuing from the previous episode, season 3 episode 16 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime starts with Rimuru Tempest hosting an audience ceremony for the Tengus. The episode delves into the origins of the Tengus, who are actually angels reborn as wolf-like creatures.
In a parallel to Ranga’s tribe, these beings are comparable to an angel who takes on the form of an individual and gives birth to packs. Episode 16 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 introduces Momiji, the Tengu’s representative and daughter of the revered Tengu elder, who is regarded as the deity of the mountains.
The episode continues with a flashback, where Benimaru and Albis are seen traveling to the Tengu’s village in the Kusha mountains as representatives seeking approval for the construction of a highway to Thalion. Only the two of them were granted access to the hidden village of the Tengus.
Upon being welcomed by Momiji, the daughter of the Tengu’s leader, the group was asked if they intended to stake claim to the land. However, Benimaru clarified that their only request was for permission to pass through the Kusha mountains and potentially construct a highway by digging a hole through them.
Benimaru reassured them that he would not pressure them into agreeing. However, Momiji and the rest of the group were not happy with the proposition and Momiji even went as far as teasing Albis, referring to her as a “foul serpent.”This sparked a conflict that was eventually diffused by Benimaru, who showcased his Haze ability.
The plot of episode 16 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 then featured Kaede, the Tengu elder, appearing at the location. She apologized for her daughter’s actions and praised Benimaru’s haze skill, which she had also learned from her master, Araki Byakuya.
Kaede shared her past, revealing that she had been romantically involved with Hakuro, the grandchild of Araki Byakuya. During that time, Hakuro did not have a name and they both trained in the Ogres village to improve their sword fighting abilities. Tragically, Araki Byakuya passed away, but this only strengthened the bond between Hakuro and Kaede.

Upon further questioning, he discovers that she is fearful of the connection between the Slime and the Demon Lord Frey. Momiji is concerned that the bird woman will target the Sorcerous Dynasty of Thalion (Sarion), and may try to enlist the Tengus as her subordinates.
Despite this, Rimuru reassures Momiji that Frey is most likely no longer interested in Thalion and the Tengu village, especially since she seems content with Jura Tempest’s new plans. With a sense of relief, Momiji willingly declares her loyalty to Rimuru Tempest.
