That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 21: Masayuki and Gobta Advance to Finals in the Battle Tournament

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 21, titled The Battle Tournament, premiered on September 6, 2024, on Nippon Television in Japan. This episode features the main battles of the tournament, showcasing the participation of Masayuki, the Lightspeed Hero, Gobta, Geld, and several others.

Masayuki advanced to the finals thanks to his passive skill, The Chosen One, which prevented him from needing to fight his opponents directly. Meanwhile, Gobta displayed remarkable strategic thinking against tough adversaries, securing his spot in the final round.

After several dialogue-heavy episodes, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 21 returned to an action-packed format. 8Bit Studios has excelled in illustrating the duels within this battle tournament.

Masayuki and Others Enter the Arena for the Main Round

The episode opens with Soka, the host, addressing the audience about the Big Four, Tempest’s strongest executives tasked with protecting Rimuru Tempest. She speculates if the tournament winner will join Shion, Diablo, and Benimaru in the Big Four or challenge Demon Lord Rimuru directly.

With preliminary battles completed, Soka officially begins the main matches of the Tempest Battle Tournament. The narrative transitions into a flashback to Rimuru’s mansion.

At Rimuru’s mansion, Diablo, Shion, and Benimaru express their desire to compete in the Battle Tournament. Rimuru understands they would almost certainly win, so he devises a plan to keep their motivation alive without allowing them to participate.

Rimuru appoints them to the title of Big Four, reserving the fourth position for whoever can reveal Masayuki the Hero’s true strength during the tournament. This proposition excites Shion and the others.

The tournament picks up, with Soka introducing the six competitors from the preliminary rounds, starting with Masayuki the Hero, who enters the main rounds without displaying his true abilities.

The crowd cheers as Masayuki takes his place in the arena, followed by Jinrai, Masayuki’s loyal companion. Soei informs Rimuru that he hasn’t been able to estimate Masayuki’s strength because Jinrai has defeated every opponent without allowing the hero to engage.

Next, Soka welcomes Gaiye, the Flowing Swordsman, to the stage. The fourth and fifth competitors are the leaders of the Boyoids, Boyix and his rival, Equix. Although Rimuru has appointed them as dungeon bosses, they aspire to serve the Demon Lord as part of the Big Four.

The sixth competitor, the enigmatic masked figure known as Lion Mask, is recognized by Rimuru and Soei as Carrion, Milim’s subordinate. After introducing the main six fighters, Soka announces two special entries: Gobta and Geld.

As all competitors gather in the arena, Rimuru Tempest descends to offer his best wishes, promising the victor the honor of his nation, whether as the final member of the Big Four or the right to challenge him directly.

The Main Round of the Battle Tournament Begins

The narrative shifts to the lottery for match-ups, favoring Masayuki as he faces his ally Jinrai. Rimuru feels the outcome is conveniently advantageous for the Lightspeed Hero.

The first main battle features eternal rivals Boyix and Equix, who confront each other wielding their weapons with full force.

Boyix’s monstrous strength and ultra-speed regeneration counter Equix’s lethal attacks. In the end, Boyix’s physical prowess prevails, granting him victory.

The second battle features Masayuki against Jinrai. As anticipated, Jinrai concedes, allowing the hero to win by default, yet the crowd still cheers for Masayuki.

The third match pits Gobta against Gaiye. Gaiye’s excessive enthusiasm to serve Rimuru frustrates Diablo. However, Gobta skillfully dodges Gaiye’s swift sword strikes. Rimuru encourages Gobta to show his true potential and promises him a coveted fishing rod.

This encouragement motivates Gobta to use his summoning magic against Gaiye. Remarkably, Ranga enters the fray and unleashes a headbutt, sending Gaiye sprawling. After Gobta’s triumph in the sixth round, the tournament moves to Geld versus Lion Mask.

Despite Geld’s valiant effort, Lion Mask’s endurance leads him to victory. Even in defeat, Geld earns Lion Mask’s respect, agreeing to a future clash at full strength. The storyline progresses to the fifth match, Masayuki versus Boyix.

Masayuki expresses regret that he cannot face Boyix at full strength, as Boyix has already exerted himself against another opponent. The hero plans to confront Boyix later in the dungeon, where he will be one of the bosses.

The Lightspeed hero’s remarks resonate with Boyix, who ultimately decides to forfeit to conserve his strength for their impending dungeon battle. Consequently, Masayuki advances to the finals without a direct confrontation.

The tournament continues with the final match of the main round, Gobta against Lion Mask. In a dramatic battle, Gobta utilizes Ranga against Lion Mask (Carrion). As the fight progresses, Lion Mask’s mask shatters. Not wanting to reveal his identity, Lion Mask withdraws from the battle.

This developments lead Gobta to become the second finalist, as Soka encourages the audience to await the final showdown between Gobta and Masayuki the following day.

After the main tournament battles, the scene shifts to the grand reception hall, where attendees revel in delicious food while discussing their favorite competitors.

Mjollmile informs Rimuru that the stalls are filled with customers, indicating increased profits. Meanwhile, Rimuru contemplates the uncertainties of the final match, considering Gobta’s potential to discover hidden strength through competition against the hero.

Ultimately, he is unsure of the outcome as the episode concludes with Gazel Dwargo arriving to meet Rimuru Tempest.
