The creators of Game of Thrones and True Blood are preparing to unveil a new adaptation of an acclaimed novel: release date, trailers, casting, plot, we tell you everything we know about The Three-Body Problem.
The conclusion of Game of Thrones had divided spectators, accustomed to much higher quality and disappointed by the sloppy side brought to a very popular series. Faced with bad buzz, many projects involving showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss then disappeared from the radar, like the Star Wars film which had joined the drawer of aborted Star Wars productions.
But a challenger, renowned for giving creators a chance and giving them a certain freedom, then took an interest in filmmakers: to everyone’s surprise, Netflix announced the adaptation of a famous novel into a series by the two showrunners, quickly joined by a third author, Alexander Woo, producer and screenwriter of True Blood and showrunner for season 2 of The Terror.
Netflix subscribers will therefore be able to discover the transcription on the small screen of a grandiose and complex saga, written by Liu Cixin and multi-awarded (several prizes, including the Galaxy Award in China, and a Hugo in the United States): The Problem à 3 Corps is the first volume of a hard SF trilogy, a science fiction that gives pride of place to contemporary theories and knowledge to the public, making the plot more plausible.

The 3-Body Problem will be released on March 21, 2024 on Netflix, starting at 9 a.m.
It was during Netflix’s Geeked Week event in 2023 that the date was made official for the end of March 2024.
The streaming platform is therefore starting the year with a bang, especially after its version of Avatar: The Last Airbender or the series The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie. If the two previous big releases had broken records, The Three-Body Problem also promises some nice surprises for the audience.
From the start, IMDb presented the series as consisting of eight episodes. The series will be available for binge-watching, which could prove useful for its plot rich in narrative threads and cutting-edge theories.
Plot: what is The 3-Body Problem about?
The 3-Body Problem is the title of the first volume of the trilogy by author Liu Cixin. It is followed by The Dark Forest and The Immortal Death. In French, the trilogy retained the name of the first work, when it obtained that of “Souvenir de la Terre” in the English translation.
The three-body problem here refers to a theory of orbital mechanics, that of the N-body problem. The novel deals with humanity’s first contact with another civilization, this time alien, alternating between representations of the past and present time, but also future consequences. New extraterrestrial species and humanity are dissected there.
On Netflix, the synopsis presents the series as follows: “On several continents and years apart, five brilliant friends make astonishing discoveries while the laws of science are disrupted and a serious threat emerges.”
And according to the trailers, the plot begins with scientists killing themselves, victims of a strange countdown while science is “broken” . At the same time, a surprising video game allows its users to find themselves catapulted into a particularly sophisticated and realistic virtual reality world.
“In reading Liu Cixin’s trilogy, we discovered the most ambitious science fiction series ever written,” the former Game of Thrones showrunners said when announcing their deal with Netflix. “We look forward to dedicating the next few years to bringing it to life to show audiences around the world.”
