From cunning Sith Lords to devious Jedi and all the characters in between, this list ranks the top Star Wars characters from both the movies and TV shows.
In Star Wars movies and shows, there is a place for characters of all types, whether it be a rogue like Han Solo searching for his next opportunity or a young man like Luke Skywalker gazing towards his destiny of saving the galaxy.
As a way to commemorate Star Wars Day, we have searched the grand cities, distant planets, and Rebel hideouts featured in both old and recent films throughout the galaxy. Our goal was to compile a list of the most unforgettable characters from various points in the Star Wars timeline.
The animated series features insurgents, as well as warriors who will play a crucial role in establishing the New Jedi Order and wise heroes who have shared some of the most memorable Star Wars quotes. All of these characters can be found here.
Jar Jar Binks
The initial appearance occurs in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
Who were they? Upon our initial encounter with Jar Jar, he was an outcast among the Gungans, having been exiled from his homeland. However, with assistance from his newfound Jedi companions, Jar Jar displayed bravery and aided in the defense of Naboo against the Trade Federation. Eventually, Jar Jar rose to a position of power, representing the Gungan populace in the Senate, where he played a crucial role in Palpatine’s plot to undermine democracy.
Despite not being a fan favorite when first introduced in the Phantom Menace, Jar Jar has since found a place in the hearts of Star Wars fans. Though initially seen as clumsy and clownish, he is now appreciated as a goofy comic relief character, following in the footsteps of other similar characters. While he may have unintentionally aided the Emperor in taking control of the galaxy, it’s worth noting that even Yoda was unaware of Palpatine’s schemes, so it’s unfair to solely blame Jar Jar for falling for them.

49. Greedo
The initial appearance was in Episode 4: A New Hope.
Who is Greedo? Han’s preferred victim, essentially. Greedo is a humanoid bounty hunter resembling an insect, and he’s also not skilled in handling his blaster.
We are drawn to Greedo primarily for his role in the iconic scene with Han in the Mos Eisley cantina. While his character may not serve much purpose, the cultural significance of their confrontation secures his place on this list. If only we could settle the debate over who shot first, we could rest contentedly.

The first time the character appeared was in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Enfys Nest, a pirate and rebel, was known as one of the most notorious outlaws in a distant galaxy. However, beneath her savage image, Enfys possessed a strong sense of heroism and was determined to bring an end to the merciless criminal syndicate known as Crimson Dawn.
Why we admire them: Enfys Nest’s striking appearance, complete with a fearsome helmet and tattered cloak, makes her the most visually captivating character in Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, there is much more to this intimidating figure than just her cool outfit. Similar to Solo, she may be a rogue, but her actions are driven by a strong sense of justice and compassion for others, making her one of the standout characters in the Star Wars universe.

Admiral Ackbar
Debut: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi
Who were they? Ackbar, a Mon Calamari commander in the Rebel Alliance, is most renowned for his iconic line, “It’s a trap,”in the Battle of Endor. He later became a founding member of the New Republic and a trusted ally of Princess Leia. Ackbar was a courageous soldier who eventually joined The Resistance and ultimately sacrificed his life in the fight against the resurgent First Order.
Reasons for our admiration: While many may view Admiral Ackbar as simply a meme, there is much more to this cherished fishman than his famous catchphrase. He possesses remarkable strategic skills, displays bravery in battle, and is a treasured companion. Yet, what truly captures our hearts is Ackbar’s unique design, which seamlessly combines puppetry, practical effects, and costume work. The end result is a completely alien character that stands out among all others in the Star Wars universe.
The words were written by Tom Percival.
Captain Phasma
Debut: Episode 7: The Force Awakens
Who were they? Phasma, the commander of the First Order’s stormtroopers, was in charge of enlisting and instructing the Imperial remnant’s ordinary soldiers. Despite being cruel and vindictive, Phasma was a proficient fighter and was responsible for creating some of the most formidable soldiers in the galaxy. In the end, Phasma sacrificed her life while attempting to eliminate Finn, remaining loyal to the First Order until her untimely demise.
Why they’re so appealing: Just like Boba Fett before her, Phasma continues the legacy of Star Wars characters who may not have a lot of action, but they certainly have style.

45. Maz Kanata
The character made their first appearance in Episode 7 of The Force Awakens.
An enigma to many, Maz Kanata was an ancient alien who lived before the Empire’s reign. She made her living as a smuggler and pirate, taking refuge in her castle on Takodana during the war between light and dark. However, her kind heart eventually prevailed, leading her to join the Resistance in their fight against the First Order. In her final moments, she played a crucial role in giving Rey Anakin’s old lightsaber and aiding Leia in reaching out to her son Ben.
Reasons for our admiration: Maz, with her compassionate and wise nature, fulfills a role similar to Yoda in the original trilogy, making her a beloved character. The subtle hints about her enigmatic past add a brilliant layer to her character and serve as a reminder that a character’s complete backstory is not always necessary to make them captivating.
Credit goes to Tom Percival for the words.
44. K-2SO
Debut: Rogue One
Who are they? K-2SO, a modified security droid, served the Rebels even though he was originally created for the Imperials. In Rogue One, he joins the team responsible for stealing the Death Star plans, along with his closest human partner, Cassian Andor.
Reason for our admiration: While there are many lovable droids in the Star Wars universe, K2 stands out for his snarky personality. His sharp wit and focus on completing missions, without the restraint of C3-P0’s etiquette programming, endeared him to us. Seeing him gain the trust of Jyn Erso only solidified our belief that droids are capable of much more than just following their programming.

43. Supreme Leader Snoke
The initial occurrence: Episode 7: The Force Awakens.
Who exactly are they? Upon our initial introduction to Snoke, he appears as a towering and enigmatic hologram, commanding Kylo Ren and General Hux to carry out his desires. However, as we witness his demise in The Last Jedi, we discover that he is actually an aged and frail man, perched upon a throne. And in The Rise of Skywalker, the truth behind Snoke is revealed: he is merely a clone, created by Emperor Palpatine as a means to aid the First Order in its quest for power, serving as a mere pawn in Palpatine’s grand scheme.
What makes them so intriguing: One of the main reasons we are captivated by Snoke is due to the exceptional performance capture and vocal talents of Andy Serkis. He brings a sense of weight and authority to the character, making it easy to believe that this seemingly frail figure could be the most powerful force in the entire galaxy. This heightens the shock when Kylo Ren ultimately turns against his master and kills him.

Admiral Holdo
Debut: Episode 8: The Last Jedi
Who is she? Amilyn Holdo was a politician, commander, and Rebel known for her eccentricity. She was a lifelong friend of Leia Organa’s and had been fighting against imperialism for many years. In The Last Jedi, she stepped in to lead the Rebel fleet after Leia was injured by Kylo Ren.
Why we admire them: Holdo may have initially been seen as a hindrance in The Last Jedi, standing in the way of Poe Dameron’s impulsive actions and appearing cold and risk-averse. However, as it turned out, she was a highly skilled strategist and a selfless leader. Her bold maneuver against the First Order fleet, now known as the ‘Holdo maneuver’, has become legendary. This serves as a reminder that intelligence and correctness are not determined by one’s appearance, despite the reluctance of some fans to acknowledge this.

Qi’ra
Debut: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Who are they? Qi’ra, a friend of Han Solo from their time on Corellia, became a servant of Dryden Vos, one of the leaders of Crimson Dawn. After patiently waiting, Qi’ra convinced Han to help her overthrow Vos and took his place. She then joined forces with Darth Maul to gain control of the notorious crime organization.
Our admiration for them: What makes Qi’ra an intriguing character is her lack of interest in the power struggles between the Jedi and Sith. She prioritizes her own well-being and is prepared to do whatever it takes to thrive in a perilous galaxy. She embodies the essence of what Han Solo claimed to be and serves as a reflection of what he could have evolved into had he not joined forces with Luke and Leia.

Jabba the Hutt
The initial appearance of the character was in Episode 4: A New Hope.
Who are they? Despite his appearance as a large, repulsive mass of slime, Jabba the Hutt was a well-known criminal and leader in the Outer Rim planet of Tatooine. He was responsible for both Han Solo’s capture and imprisonment in carbonite, as well as the enslavement of Princess Leia.
Reasons for our admiration: In a world where noble heroes and dark sorcerers with enchanted blades reign supreme, it’s truly refreshing to see a repulsive extraterrestrial creature like Jabba in the spotlight. He may be vile, but at least he knows how to host a good celebration.

Saw Gerrera
Debut: Rogue One
Who are they?: A seasoned leader in the Resistance who, following the emergence of the Galactic Empire, became a crucial figure in the Rebellion movement. Despite being labeled an extremist due to his zealous tactics, he served as a mentor to Jyn Erso during her formative years and ultimately sacrificed his life to aid her in escaping the clutches of the Empire.
Reason for admiration: With Forest Whitaker portraying an intergalactic terrorist, it’s impossible not to be captivated by the sheer badassery of Saw Gerrera. Despite being a battle-scarred veteran whose experiences have shattered his soul, Saw remains compassionate enough to assist those he holds dear.
The words were written by Jakob Barnes.
General Grievous
The first time the character appeared was in Clone Wars: Season 2 Episode 10.
Who were they? Grievous, a Kaleesh warlord, was a member of the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. His brutal strategies and use of cybernetic enhancements caught the eye of Count Dooku and Darth Sidious.
What we admire about them: Grievous is known for his impressive lightsaber skills, which we find highly appealing. His tendency to defeat Jedi in combat and take their lightsabers as trophies made him a formidable opponent, despite his physical appearance and frequent coughing. He proved to be a formidable opponent for Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith, and their epic battle, in which Grievous utilized all four of his arms, was truly memorable.

37. Leader of the First Order
The initial appearance of this character was in Episode 7: The Force Awakens.
Who are they? Hux, the cunning and deceitful leader of the First Order military, was responsible for leading the Imperial remnant’s initial attack on the New Republic. However, after the death of Snoke, the destruction of Starkiller Base, and the defeat of the First Order at Crait, his once formidable reputation was marred beyond repair. This ultimately led to his betrayal of Kylo Ren and his former comrades.
The reason we have a fondness for them: There is a certain level of amusement that comes with watching inept villains make a mess of everything, and unfortunately for Hux, he couldn’t seem to catch a break. Right from the start, it was evident that he was out of his element, and as time passed, it became clear to everyone that he simply couldn’t measure up to other skilled Imperial strategists such as Tarkin and Thrawn. Hux’s one-sided rivalry with Kylo Ren only added to his character and made him one of the standout elements of the sequel trilogy. It’s just a shame that his exit in Rise of Skywalker was rather unceremonious.

Grog
The Mandalorian’s first appearance was in Season 1, Episode 1 (Chapter 1).
Who are they? Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda, is a Jedi padawan who managed to escape the temple during Anakin’s massacre of the younglings. Despite his small size, Grogu possesses great strength and power. He was first encountered when he was rescued by Din Djarin, and the two have formed a strong and inseparable bond. Although Din initially planned to have Grogu raised by the Jedi, he has now decided to train him in the ways of Mandalore instead.
What makes us adore them: Simply take a glance at him. It’s impossible not to develop a fondness for this frog-eating goblin. In all honesty, Grogu is a playful joy who brings warmth to every scene he’s in. Despite the lackluster Mandalorian season 3, Grogu remained exceptional and always managed to brighten my day.

What makes them special: Chirrut Îmwe is the heart and soul of Rogue One. Among a group of cynical outcasts fueled by anger and remorse, Chirrut remains steadfast in his belief that the force guides his actions. Though others may view him as naive, his intuition proves to be valuable. His remarkable fighting abilities and wisdom make him a brave and unforgettable warrior in a film filled with heroes.

34. Grand Admiral Thrawn
Debut: Rebels: Season 3 Episode 1 (Steps into Shadow)
Why do we love Grand Admiral Thrawn? Thrawn, a loyal Imperial admiral, is a brilliant military commander and tactician who played a crucial role in the Empire’s battle against the fledgling Rebel Alliance. Despite his eventual defeat and exile to an unknown galaxy by Ezra Bridger, Thrawn would later return to aid the Imperial Remnants in their fight against the emerging New Republic. Thrawn holds a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans, particularly since his canonization in the beloved animated series Rebels. While there are many reasons to admire Thrawn, such as his strategic genius and confident demeanor, what truly sets him apart is his atypical portrayal as a villain. Unlike other antagonists in the Star

Star Wars droid BB-8
Initially seen in: Episode 7: The Force Awakens
BB-8, a Resistance astromech droid belonging to Poe Dameron, was separated from its owner while searching for the map to Luke Skywalker. It eventually ended up in the care of Rey. Even after the events of The Force Awakens, BB-8 remains a helpful companion and a source of lightheartedness.
One of the reasons we adore them is because of their adorable droids that perfectly complement the Star Wars universe. BB-8 never outstayed his welcome, always making brief and humorous appearances or providing valuable assistance in the fight against The First Order. Despite being a CGI character, he was able to convey a lot of emotion, which was heartwarming to watch. Seeing him roll away with Rey at the end of The Rise of Skywalker was a beautiful moment.

Star Wars Character
Kanan Jarrus – Star Wars Character
Debut: Rebels (The Machine in the Ghost)
Who are they? Kanan is perhaps one of the most formidable Jedi that you may not be familiar with. His journey is explored in the Rebels animated series, where he serves as the leader of the Ghost crew and guides Ezra Bridger. Despite surviving Order 66 and being blinded by Darth Maul, he never wavered in his determination to fight until the very end, ultimately sacrificing himself to protect his fellow rebels.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Kanan’s fighting spirit only grows stronger. Despite the devastating impact of Order 66, he continues to resist the Empire with unwavering determination, utilizing both his blaster and lightsaber. However, it is his ability to overcome his blindness and tap into a newfound level of strength that truly sets him apart as one of the most admirable Jedi in the galaxy.
Lyrics by Jakob Barnes
Grand Moff Tarkin
The first time the character appeared was in Episode 4: A New Hope.
Who are they? While the Emperor and Darth Vader may be more well-known, it can be argued that Tarkin is the true antagonist of the first Star Wars film. While Vader serves as the physical force of the Empire, Tarkin is its mastermind, and he is a merciless enforcer of Palpatine’s desires.
The reason for our admiration: Tarkin serves as a prime example that being intimidating does not require the use of a lightsaber or the donning of elaborate armor.
Written by Jakob Barnes
Ezra Bridger
Initial sighting: Ezra Bridger’s possession in Rebels shorts.
Who are they? Ezra was a Force-sensitive child who came into existence during the rise of the Galactic Empire. As an orphan, he spent his early years without a family but eventually found his purpose when he joined forces with The Ghost crew and the fledgling Rebellion. Under the guidance of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, Ezra honed his skills and became a valuable ally in the fight against the Empire. In a selfless act, he sacrificed himself to save the Rebels from Thrawn. However, Ezra’s fate was not sealed as he was banished to an unknown galaxy for the remainder of the war. In a fortunate turn of events, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren were able to locate
One of the reasons why we admire them is because of their street-smart and snarky nature. Ezra stands out from the previous Force-sensitive characters we have encountered due to his unconventional ways. However, it is not just his uniqueness that makes us love him. Ezra’s likability lies in his refusal to conform to the traditional light side/dark side division. He is a multi-dimensional character with depth and complexity. Above all, Ezra’s loyalty to his friends and chosen family is unwavering, and he will go to any lengths to protect them.

Mon Mothma
Debut: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi
Who is she? Mon Mothma was a highly regarded politician and member of the Senate during the Republic’s downfall. She was a firm supporter of peace during the Clone Wars and remained dedicated to fighting for justice when she assumed leadership of the Rebellion, ultimately helping to defeat the Galactic Empire.
While Mon Mothma only had a small role in Return of the Jedi, her character was given a chance to truly shine in Andor when Genevieve O’Reilly took over the role. Through this portrayal, we were able to delve deeper into her motivations and sacrifices, and witness the compassion and shrewd pragmatism that made her one of the most fascinating political figures in the franchise.
The words were written by Jakob Barnes.
28. Tico Roses
The first time the character appeared was in Episode 8: The Last Jedi.
Originally a member of The Resistance with a low rank, Rose was first encountered during the Battle of D’Qar, where she crossed paths with Finn. Encouraged by Finn’s bravery, Rose played a crucial part in halting the First Order’s fleet and rescued Finn during the siege on Crait. As the conflict progressed, Rose rose through the ranks of the Resistance and ultimately led ground forces to triumph on Exegol.
Why we admire her: Rose is a remarkable character because she represents the everyday person. She is not a stormtrooper or has any special powers; she is an ordinary individual who stands up for what she believes is right. Her character embodies the core message of Star Wars that courage and the ability to do good reside within each of us. We just need the chance to showcase it.

Notable Characters: Boba Fett
Debut: Star Wars Holiday Special
Who is he? Initially known as the most merciless mercenary in the galaxy, the Mandalorian Boba Fett was a constant foe of the Rebel Alliance until he was consumed by the Sarlaac pit. After eventually breaking free, Fett spent years surviving in the Tatooine desert before retrieving his armor and joining forces with Din Djarin to rescue the youngling Grogu. After their mission, Boba attempted to take over as the dominant criminal leader in the Outer Rim, only to realize that he longed for the excitement of the chase once again.
Reasons for our admiration: Anyone who claims to dislike Boba Fett is surely not being truthful. Despite his minimal role in the original trilogy, Boba Fett’s appearance alone was enough to captivate audiences. With the addition of prequels and expanded universe content, he has evolved into a complex character with his own unique sense of morality. Not to mention, he played a crucial role in Mando’s mission to save Grogu – it’s impossible not to appreciate him for that.

Throughout the war, he displayed acts of heroism and proved to be more than just a typical clone trooper. As the war drew to a close, he defied his programming and betrayed the Emperor, choosing to join the growing Rebellion.
One of the reasons why Rex is so highly regarded is because he symbolizes the immense potential for growth and progress. Despite starting out as a mass-produced clone, he undergoes significant personal growth and emerges as a unique individual, demonstrating that the clones had the capacity to be more than just instruments of warfare.
The author of these words is Tom Percival.
25. Sabine Wren
Debut: Rebels: The Machine in the Ghost
Sabine Wren, a Force-sensitive Mandalorian warrior, eventually became a Jedi during the early years of the New Republic. She received training from Ahsoka Tano, but their relationship was strained. After being abandoned by her Master, Sabine ultimately reunited with Ahsoka in order to rescue Ezra Bridger.
Despite the abundance of powerful characters in the Star Wars franchise, Sabine stands out as one of the coolest due to her unique character design. However, what truly makes her stand out is her relatable flaws, which add depth to her journey in mastering the Force. She is willing to defy orders and risk missions to protect those she cares about, making her training and growth all the more rewarding to witness. In a world of natural talent, Sabine’s determination to earn her power is refreshing and inspiring.

Who are they? They are Ahsoka Tano, a Force-sensitive outcast from the Jedi Order who created a network of rebel cells following the Clone Wars. Ahsoka received training from Anakin Skywalker before he turned to the Dark Side.
Despite her training under the Jedi Order, Ahsoka’s true awesomeness lies in her ability to remain a neutral force in a fictional universe that thrives on dividing individuals into good and evil. However, her time with the Jedi Order ultimately led to her loss of faith in the institution.

C-3PO
Debut: Episode 4: A New Hope
Who is C-3PO? A protocol droid created by Anakin Skywalker, C-3PO is a fastidious and proper robot fixated on manners. Despite his role as a robotic servant, Threepio played a significant role in the history of the galaxy, serving prominent masters such as Padme Amidala, Luke Skywalker, and General Leia.
The reason for our admiration: Threepio’s prim and proper demeanor may make him an easy target for laughs, but that’s exactly why we love him. He serves as a comedic relief in the midst of a galactic conflict, being a robot butler who is clearly out of place. While he may display moments of bravery, he ultimately plays second fiddle to the superior R2, who is the true star droid.

Star Wars Villain: Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus
The character made their debut in Episode 2 of the series, titled “Attack of the Clones”.
Who exactly are they? Count Dooku, a former Jedi who became a Sith Lord, did not succumb to the temptations of the Dark Side for personal gain, but rather due to feelings of hopelessness. As a former Jedi Knight, he saw the corruption within the Galactic Republic and believed that a revolution was necessary to preserve democracy, or so he claimed. However, Dooku ultimately falls victim to the corrupting influence of his newfound powers, becoming just as tyrannical as the very leaders he sought to overthrow. This arrogance ultimately leads to his demise in a final showdown against Anakin Skywalker.
Reasons for our admiration: Christopher Lee’s acting talent is undeniable; we would be enthralled by his performance in any role. He had a knack for infusing one-dimensional villains with depth and complexity. This is evident in his portrayal of Dooku, who appears poised and eloquent on the surface but harbors the same level of brutality as Maul and tyranny as Vader underneath.

21. Lando Calrissian
Debut: Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back
One of Han’s long-standing companions and the slickest individual in the galaxy, Lando Calrissian was a cunning swindler who betrayed his friends in order to protect Cloud City. Recognizing his error in aligning with Darth Vader and the Empire, Lando switched his loyalty and joined the Rebel Alliance, proving to be a valuable ally in the Galactic Civil War. He played a crucial part in the downfall of the Death Star II and the defeat of the Sith fleet on Exegol.
What makes us adore them: Despite his charming and suave demeanor, Lando is not always easy to like, especially when he betrays you. However, beneath his smooth charisma, Lando possesses the heart of a true hero, as demonstrated when he deceived Vader at Cloud City.

Character Biography – Poe Dameron
The initial appearance of this character was in Episode 7 of The Force Awakens.
Who are they? Well, he happens to be the most skilled pilot in the resistance! Poe is a key ally to Rey and Finn throughout the sequel trilogy and is also somewhat of a father figure to BB-8.
It is undeniable that Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Poe Dameron plays a significant role in the character’s appeal. With his charismatic charm and impressive piloting skills, Poe exudes a quarterback-like energy that draws viewers in. His quick wit, bravery, and iconic eye roll upon learning of Palpatine’s return further solidify him as one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars franchise.

Qui-Gon Jinn
The first time the character appeared was in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
Qui-Gon Jinn was a highly respected Jedi Master during the Republic Era, known for his unorthodox methods. Despite being offered a seat on the Jedi Council, he chose to follow his own path and remained a revered member of the Order.
What we admire about them: Despite not having a lot of screen time, Qui-Gon’s death at the hands of Darth Maul is a pivotal moment in the prequels’ Jedi-Sith conflict. He played a crucial role in setting Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on their destined paths, firmly believing in the Force’s will and Anakin’s importance to the balance. What sets Qui-Gon apart is his rebellious nature, often respectfully challenging the council’s decisions and bureaucracy.

18. Mace Windu
The initial appearance of the character occurred in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
Who were they? Mace Windu was a stern and somber Jedi Master who openly opposed the choice to train Anakin Skywalker. He was renowned for his expertise in the combative aspects of The Force and played a crucial role as a general in the Clone Wars, successfully conquering formidable adversaries like Jango Fett. Tragically, Mace met his demise when Anakin betrayed him during his intense battle against Darth Sidious.
Reasons for our admiration: The prequels portrayed the Jedi as a mundane monastic group, with many of the knights and masters lacking any distinct personalities. However, this was not the case for Windu. Unlike his fellow Jedi, Windu possessed an aggressive and serious demeanor, giving off a sense that he could easily succumb to the Dark Side. His tendency to resort to his lightsaber as a means of problem-solving made him an intriguing contrast to his fellow Jedi.

Jyn Erso
Debut: Rogue One
Who are they?: Jyn Erso was a female human soldier and former criminal who played a crucial role in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. She led Rogue One in a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans during the Battle of Scarif. Born to Lyra Erso, a devout member of the Church of the Force, and scientist Galen Erso, who was coerced into aiding the Galactic Empire in constructing the Death Star, Jyn became an integral member of the Rebel Alliance.
Despite her lack of exceptional qualities, Jyn’s transformation from a naive and unattached civilian to a brave freedom fighter who successfully delivered the Death Star plans to Leia is what tugged at our heartstrings in Rogue One. Her mere chance in being involved in the midst of everything did not hinder her from rising to the challenge and selflessly sacrificing everything to bring a glimmer of hope and light into a bleak and desolate galaxy.

Mandalorian and Din Djarin
Debut: The Mandalorian: Season 1 Episode 1 (Chapter 1)
Din Djarin, an orphan from Mandalore, was raised by the Children of the Watch. His unwavering devotion to ‘The Way’ was evident throughout his upbringing, but his beliefs were challenged and changed in The Mandalorian. Despite being a bounty hunter, Din ultimately found a sense of belonging and meaning when he saved Grogu.
Despite his mysterious persona in The Mandalorian, Mando is undeniably one of the most endearing characters in the Star Wars franchise. Though he may be reticent, he consistently demonstrates his unwavering loyalty, his dedication to protecting the helpless, and his role as a paternal figure to a young, vulnerable alien in desperate need of guidance.

Cassian Andor
Debut: Rogue One
A reluctant rebel is thrown into the battle against the Galactic Empire after witnessing the oppression and cruelty that plagues the galaxy. He ultimately plays a vital role in acquiring the Death Star plans and transmitting them to Princess Leia.
Reasons for our admiration: While Jyn Erso would easily earn our admiration based on her role in Rogue One alone, Cassian Andor’s character has been further developed through his own TV show, making him one of the most complex and captivating characters in the entire galaxy.
Cassian’s story is a captivating one, from participating in daring heists against the Empire to enduring time at the Narkina 5 prison facility. His journey is filled with depth and rawness, making him a true inspiration for the Rebellion. There is a strong desire for Andor Season 2, and it is needed urgently!

14.
Finn
Debut: Episode 7: The Force Awakens
Finn, a former First Order stormtrooper, betrayed his old masters after witnessing a massacre. However, thanks to his new friends – Poe, Han Solo, and Rey – Finn was able to find his place in the galaxy as a highly regarded member of The Resistance. He rose to the rank of general and led ground troops during the decisive battle on Exegol.
Reason for our admiration: Although Finn undergoes significant growth throughout the sequel trilogy, that is not what endears him to us. In fact, his inclusion on this list is due to his remarkable friendship with Poe Dameron. Their undeniable chemistry and the heartfelt embrace they share in The Last Jedi truly captures our hearts.

13. Yoda
The first time this character was seen was in Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back.
Who exactly are they? Yoda, known as the wisest and most experienced Jedi, has provided guidance to nearly all of the key figures in the galaxy. Despite his small size, as shown in the Prequel Trilogy, he is also skilled in wielding a lightsaber and is greatly feared by the Sith.
What makes us admire them: Yoda is both a highly regarded mentor and a skilled warrior, but above all, he maintains a lighthearted attitude. While training Luke Skywalker on Dagobah, he showcases impressive techniques, but it is truly remarkable when he sacrifices himself rather than endure any more of the young Jedi’s bratty behavior.

Padmé Amidala
The character made their debut in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
Who are they?: They are two prominent figures in the Galactic Republic – Padme, the former Queen of Naboo, and Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight. They fell in love and Padme became an elected Senator during the final years of the Republic.
Our admiration for them: The success of Revenge of the Sith relies heavily on Padme being a character worthy of redemption. Whether in live-action films, animated series, or other mediums, she is a highly skilled politician and devoted ally who prioritizes the well-being of others. She was particularly perceptive of the crumbling democracy surrounding her and grieved for the impact it would have on the wider galaxy beyond the ongoing Jedi-Sith conflict. Many iconic quotes from Star Wars came from her, and she refused to compromise her values by joining Anakin’s tyrannical crusade, even at the cost of losing everything.

11. Darth Maul
Debut: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
Who is he referring to?: Darth Maul, a Dathomirian Zabrak Sith, served as The Emperor’s apprentice during the final years of the Galactic Republic.
Despite being barely explored in the live-action movies, Darth Maul’s appearance near the end of The Phantom Menace remains one of the most memorable sequences in the franchise. With a menacing aura surrounding him, he exudes a sense of threat and danger that perfectly embodies his character. His cool factor is undeniable and adds to his overall appeal.

10. Emperor Palpatine
The first time this character appeared was in Episode 5 of The Empire Strikes Back.
Who are they?: The individual known as Darth Sidious, originally named Sheev Palpatine and later referred to as The Emperor, was the Sith Master responsible for establishing the Galactic Empire and manipulating Anakin Skywalker into becoming a follower of the Dark Side.
Reasons for our admiration: We may not go as far as saying we love them, but we definitely hold Palpatine in high regard as a villain. His ominous presence in the Original Trilogy sent shivers down our spines, while the prequels revealed his cunning and manipulative nature as a political mastermind. Disguising himself as a wise Senator, he slyly planted doubts in Anakin’s mind about the Jedi order and the Galactic Council’s corrupt bureaucracy. Beneath this façade lies pure malevolence, expertly dismantling democracy piece by piece.

R2-D2
Debut: Episode 4: A New Hope
Who is R2-D2? R2-D2 is a brave, intelligent, and snarky astromech droid. He serves as the competent counterpart to Threepio’s comic relief. Why we admire him: In Star Wars, there is a lot of talk about destiny, prophecy, and predestined greatness. However, R2-D2 proves that these ideas are not always accurate. Despite being a mere astromech droid, R2 has played a vital role in saving the galaxy multiple times, showing that heroes can emerge from unexpected places.

Star Wars Character: Kylo Ren / Ben Solo
Debut: Episode 7: The Force Awakens
Who are they?: The offspring of Han and Leia was destined to follow in his uncle Luke’s footsteps and become a powerful Jedi. However, Ben succumbed to the allure of the Dark Side and transformed into the merciless and enraged Kylo Ren. As the ruthless enforcer for the First Order, he causes chaos throughout the galaxy and tragically kills his own father. Fortunately, he eventually finds redemption and returns to the light by the end of the saga.
Despite Darth Vader’s intimidating appearance, his character lacked depth and he was not as brutal as his reputation suggested. However, in Kylo Ren, we see a more deranged, dangerous, and intriguing version of his late grandfather. Actor Adam Driver’s performances throughout the series add a significant depth to his character. Additionally, his cool lightsaber only adds more points to his overall appeal.

7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The character made their debut in the seventh episode of the series, titled “The Force Awakens”.
Who are they?: They are Rey, a human Jedi who joined the resistance in The Force Awakens after their latent Force sensitivity was awakened. After overcoming their dark origin, Rey set out to find a new path in the galaxy at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
Reasons for admiration: Throughout The Skywalker Saga, Rey often flirted with the dark side but still maintained her charm and unpredictability despite the weight of the franchise’s legacy and lore. One of the most impactful character arcs in the film series was her rejection of the predetermined fate she was supposed to fulfill. In an upcoming Star Wars movie, she will venture out on her own and continue to forge her own path, building upon the fresh start she fought for. As a highly force-sensitive character, her potential remains untapped and she deserves the opportunity to explore it fully.

Star Wars Character: Chewbacca
Debut: Episode 4: A New Hope
Who is he?: He is a Wookiee with a heart of gold, the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, and Han Solo’s faithful partner in crime. Chewbacca has faced the loss of his family and the near extinction of his species, yet he never wavered in his fight for peace in the galaxy.
Why we adore them: It’s truly uncomplicated… Chewy is simply the most affectionate, compassionate, and fiercely devoted being in the entire universe. There is no one better to have by your side in a battle, and he’s the type of Wookiee who would sacrifice himself to aid others.

5. Luke Skywalker
The initial appearance occurred in Episode 4: A New Hope.
Who is he?: A renowned Jedi knight, Luke Skywalker was raised as a humble farmhand on Tatooine. However, upon encountering Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke became aware of his fate and enlisted in the Rebel Alliance, honing his extraordinary Force abilities. Ultimately, Luke played a crucial part in toppling the Empire, redeeming Darth Vader, and liberating the galaxy from oppression.
Why he is beloved: While some may view Luke as dull, considering he is the heroic protagonist with extraordinary abilities who saves the day, this overlooks what truly makes him a captivating character. Luke’s brilliance lies not in his immense Force potential, but in his personal growth throughout the original trilogy. He transforms from a hot-headed and aggressive youth to a composed and sagacious knight who understands that violence is not the answer to his struggles.
Despite the underlying darkness, Luke possesses the ability to resist it, unlike his father. Therefore, I was not troubled by the revelation in The Last Jedi that Luke had contemplated killing Ben Solo. It is evident that Luke has struggled with dark thoughts in the past, leading him to draw his lightsaber, but he consistently chooses to do what is morally right.

Han Solo
The first time this character is seen is in Episode 4: A New Hope.
In the Original Trilogy, Han starts off as a two-bit criminal and smuggler on the lookout for easy money. However, despite being a stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder, he becomes a beloved rogue and becomes deeply involved in the Rebellion’s battle against the Galactic Empire.
Reasons for our admiration: In addition to being the epitome of cool in the entire galaxy, Han Solo is also incredibly entertaining. From his facial expressions to his iconic shrug and witty one-liners, he is a joy to watch, and much of this is thanks to the natural charisma of Harrison Ford.
As the Sequel Trilogy unfolds, we witness a more vulnerable side of Han, particularly when he faces his estranged son in one of the most jarring and heartbreaking scenes of the entire Skywalker Saga. Han, we adore you (and he is well aware of our love).

3. Princess Leia
Debut: Episode 4: A New Hope
Who are they?: They are Leia Organa, a Force-sensitive Princess from Alderaan who refused to sit out of fights, and became a courageous leader of the Rebellion. Alongside Luke, Han, and eventually Rey, they fought to defeat the Sith.
What makes them so special: Leia’s portrayal by Carrie Fisher brought a dynamic energy to the character that seamlessly complemented her graceful demeanor. Despite her beauty, she was also fiercely determined and dedicated to the Rebel Alliance. Her sharp wit and banter with Han made her a fan-favorite, and even after many years, she remains one of the most beloved female characters in literature.

2. The Dual Identity of Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader
Initial appearance: Episode 4: A New Hope
Who is he?: Anakin Skywalker, also known as ‘The Chosen One’, was a young boy from Tatooine who was accepted into the Jedi Order and trained to become a powerful Jedi. Despite being prophesied to save the galaxy, he ultimately succumbed to the dark side and became known as Darth Vader, attempting to rule the galaxy instead.
Why they captivate us: Despite his tendency towards emotional intensity, Anakin remains a complex character and the emotional backbone of The Skywalker Saga. His humble origins, grief, and susceptibility ultimately lead him down a destructive path. Through Darth Vader, Star Wars explores its core themes of corruption and redemption, showing how the Dark Side can taint even the most haunted individuals. Anakin’s decision to rescue his son, Luke, in Return of the Jedi brings a satisfying conclusion to a poignant journey that spans the entire Star Wars universe.

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
The initial appearance took place in Episode 4 of A New Hope.
Obi-Wan, a Jedi, first trained Anakin Skywalker as his apprentice and later served as a spiritual guide to Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy.
Obi-Wan’s enigmatic past was first hinted at in A New Hope, and was later fully revealed by Ewan McGregor in the prequel films. While deeply committed to the Jedi Order, Obi-Wan was not blind to its flaws and shortcomings. Unfortunately, he only realized the true extent of the Order’s peril when it was already too late. His bond with his former apprentice, who had turned to the dark side, was a central aspect of his journey. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series further explored his sense of responsibility and guilt after Anakin’s betrayal. Known for his unwavering moral compass, one of Obi-Wan’s greatest qualities was his ability to take ownership of his mistakes and use them as lessons
