“Based on the webtoons “Money Game”and “Pie Game”by Bae Jin-soo, “The 8 Show”follows the gripping tale of eight individuals who find themselves trapped in a secret space consisting of eight floors. They are forced to participate in a dangerous yet lucrative show where they earn money as time passes. Starring Ryu Jun-yeol, Chun Woo-hee, Park Jeong-min, Lee Yul-eum, Park Hae-joon, Lee Joo-young, Moon Jeong-hee, and Bae Seong-woo, this dark comedy thriller has now released all eight episodes.”
Despite facing controversy, the series remained in the spotlight and was even dubbed “the second Squid Game”before its release. Its stars, Ryu Jun-yeol and Bae Seong-woo, also drew attention due to their past controversies – Jun-yeol’s “private life scandal”and Seong-woo’s conviction for drunk driving.
Following its debut, numerous real-time reviews inundated various online platforms such as Naver Open Talk, showcasing its immense popularity. The response has been greatly divided. While the initial episodes garnered widespread acclaim for the stellar performances of Ryu Jun-yeol and Chun Woo-hee, opinions began to diverge in the later episodes, with many criticizing the direction. The finale also sparked mixed reactions, ultimately resulting in a sharply contrasting overall consensus.
Opinions about Bae Seong-woo were divided, with some praising him as the “Korean Joker”while others expressed negative reactions, criticizing his return and questioning the sincerity of his apology.
“Despite starting at number 3 domestically, “The 8 Show”quickly climbed to the top spot within two days amidst intense debates. While it has not yet reached number one internationally, it received a fervent response in Hong Kong and secured the second spot overall. It also ranked third in nine countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.”
