The Acolyte star claps back at Star Wars hate in the most iconic way

The Acolyte has faced an excessive amount of criticism from Star Wars enthusiasts, but one star has now responded to its “woke”label in a truly iconic manner.

Despite facing criticism from fans, The Acolyte has continued to push the boundaries of the Star Wars timeline halfway through the series.

Titled “The Wokelyte”after the initial trailer release, the show has received criticism for its unique and inclusive interpretation of the distant galaxy, depicting a Jedi massacre in the year 132 BBY.

Despite receiving new complaints, star Amandla Stenberg, known for portraying twins Osha and Mae in the show, responded with a music video that was recorded, shot, and edited within a tight timeframe of 72 hours.

In the video, Stenberg expresses, “They twist the concept of being woke, exploiting and misusing it. As far as I know, being woke was a term we coined to speak truth to power and to stand against ignorant racists.”

“Nowadays, the term is often used to describe anything that people feel threatened by… but its original intention was for people to recognize bigotry and the strength of community, rather than being used as clickbait.”

Despite facing media criticism this month for her statement that her 2019 film The Hate U Give aimed to elicit tears from white viewers, Stenberg’s latest work The Acolyte has sparked a similar discussion among Star Wars fans through its music video’s powerful message.

After facing disgusting racist hate from Star Wars ‘fans’, Amandla Stenberg responded by writing, recording, shooting, and editing a song and music video in just 72 hours, which they dropped on Juneteenth. A Twitter user praised Stenberg for their quick and powerful response, calling them an icon and legend.

Similarly, someone else also shared, “This is Amandla Stenberg’s response to the racism present in the Star Wars fan community. It serves as a reminder that when such incidents occur, ALL #RWRB supporters should react in the same way, flooding the timeline with positivity and also not letting the haters get away with their hateful comments. We must call them out!”

“To Amandla Stenberg, in case you happen to read this, I want to express that you are in no way deserving of the hatred and discrimination that is being directed towards you. Your performances as Mae and Osha in The Acolyte have been greatly admired by me, and I eagerly anticipate what you will bring in the future!”a third added.

The Acolyte currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%, but only a 14% audience score.
