Following the unexpected announcement of The Acolyte’s cancellation on Disney Plus, one of the show’s cast members has shared their astonishment and disbelief regarding the news.
Despite its initial reception, The Acolyte was a divisive addition to Disney Plus’ Star Wars lineup. Its diverse cast and far-flung placement in the Star Wars chronology caused a divide among viewers, resulting in both praise and criticism, with the show even falling victim to review bombing.
Despite a significant decrease in viewership following the two-episode premiere and a costly budget of $180 million, the lack of news about Season 2 was not unexpected. Nevertheless, the abrupt cancellation announcement caught many fans off guard, leading to petitions and campaigns urging Disney to revive the show.
Despite the fans being vocal on the matter, the cast and crew have not been as open about their opinions. This does not include Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Jedi Master Sol.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lee expressed his disappointment with the cancellation, even though his character’s death in the Season 1 finale meant he would not have been included in future seasons.
“As mentioned, my character had died in the first season,”Lee expressed. “Therefore, even if there had been a second season, I would not have been able to appear. However, I must say that I was truly fond of Leslye’s writing.”
“I was impressed by her talent as both a writer and director. Her ability to craft compelling stories and develop well-rounded characters made her stand out. Naturally, I eagerly awaited a second season under her leadership.”
He went on to say, “I was personally quite surprised to hear the news.”
Looking ahead, Lee remains hopeful that The Acolyte’s fate will be reversed.
“I am hopeful that there may be changes in the future,”he stated. “The future is unpredictable, so personally, I would love to see more of Leslye’s second season.”
