The Acolyte writer reveals why Episode 4 was so short

Despite the controversy surrounding Star Wars: The Acolyte, there is one point that fans seem to unanimously agree on: the episodes are unusually short, particularly Episode 4.

The Acolyte has left many fans confused with its oddly sudden endings, giving the impression that the episodes have been prematurely ended. This trend persisted in the show’s fourth episode.

The conclusion of Episode 4 sees Mae’s enigmatic master confronting the Jedi, but before a confrontation can occur, the iconic Star Wars theme begins playing and a classic wipe takes us to the credits.

A fan reached out to series writer Claire Kiechel on Twitter to inquire about the episode’s brief length. Kiechel responded, explaining that the timing limitations for both the fourth and fifth episodes of The Acolyte were the reason for this.

“Due to *circumstances*, next week’s episode required a longer duration, which resulted in the current one being kept short.”

Kiechel assures fans that the remaining episodes will not be as short, stating that she expects Episode 4 to be the shortest of the series.

Despite the fact that its biggest action set piece – Wookie Jedi Master Kelnacca fighting the mysterious Sith Master – happens entirely off-screen, the fourth episode of The Acolyte is just under thirty minutes in length.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Kiechel confirmed that the episode initially contained a large fight scene, but it was ultimately cut in order to maintain the show’s mystery narrative.

Despite the latest development of the missing fight and the abrupt ending, which have left fans openly confused, there is still hope for the series to improve. This is particularly true if Episode Five utilizes its extended run time effectively, considering the previous decisions that have perplexed fans, such as the outcome of Indara and the unexpected prequel cameo.
