On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, TOHO Animation revealed that the much-anticipated The Apothecary Diaries season 2 is slated for release on Friday, January 10, 2025. This exciting announcement was accompanied by the launch of the series’ second promotional video, which was shared on TOHO Animation’s official YouTube Channel. Additionally, viewers were treated to a new key visual that showcases the anime.
This series began its serialization in Shōsetsuka ni Narō back in 2011 and was subsequently acquired by Shufunotomo. It has also seen adaptations into two manga series, published by Square Enix and Shogakukan. The anime adaptation, produced by OLM and Toho Animation Studio, will soon premiere its second season of The Apothecary Diaries.

The announcement was complemented by a new key visual featuring the principal characters, Maomao and Jinshi, who are depicted strolling through the dimly lit corridors of the Imperial Palace, illuminated by the glow of the moon and stars.
The second promotional video highlights moments from the forthcoming season and offers a glimpse into the unfolding narrative. As with the first season, Jinshi will enlist Maomao’s expertise in investigating intriguing and puzzling poison-related cases, prompting her to accept once she discovers the allure of the new mystery.
Furthermore, the promotional footage hints at an impending calamity looming over Imperial China. While details of this new story arc remain scarce, it appears to be connected to a war, with visuals depicting soldiers riding horses across what resembles a desert landscape.
In a notable moment from the promotional video, Maomao suggested that the upcoming incident shares striking similarities with events that transpired at the end of the previous season. Fans will recall that the inaugural season concluded with Lakan’s elaborate plan to assassinate Jinshi, a plot which Maomao thwarted.
This parallel suggests that audiences may soon witness another intricately devised scheme where a character’s life hangs in the balance.
Additionally, the anime has released new character visuals featuring Maomao, Jinshi, Gyokuyou, Gaoshun, and Xiaolan.
