The best class to start in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 lets you choose your character’s class at the start of the game, and one of them is particularly suitable for beginners.

When you start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you will have the option to choose from 4 classes: Archer, Warrior, Mage and Thief.

If you haven’t played the original Dragon’s Dogma or aren’t a big fan of action RPGs, then there’s a class that should suit you, as you can assign other roles to your Pawns.

The best starting choice in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the Thief class

The Rogue is the best class for beginners in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They are extremely fast and can deal fearsome damage with their dual daggers, making them extremely satisfying to handle because you can always be on the offensive.

The Thief has some incredible special attack options. Implicit lets you fire a grappling hook that can grab enemies, which is a great way to deal with flying enemies. Pull and Spread deals an incredible amount of damage to larger enemies while you’re climbing on them.

The Thief also gains the Master Killer parry/counterattack, which is extremely useful when facing groups of enemies, as it deals heavy damage and grants temporary invincibility during its animation.

The other class options in Dragon’s Dogma 2 aren’t bad, per se, and if you really want to play a spellcaster/tank, go for it. It’s just that some aspects of these vocations are trickier to play because of how enemies work.

The Archer and Mage take time to line up their attacks, especially when preparing spells. During this time, it’s easy to get stunned, with many enemies able to run across the battlefield or attack from a distance. This can make it frustrating to rely on slow attacks and have few defensive options at close range.

Also, the Warrior is not a bad choice for a beginner, but he is slower. This means that it is not as offensive, especially against faster enemies that attack from your blind spots, like wolves.

Since you can have three Pawns with you, the ideal setup is to have a Healing Mage, a Warrior, and either an Archer or an Offensive Mage in your party. These will fill the less fun roles, allowing you to fight like an action movie hero.

You’ll eventually unlock more advanced classes for your Insurgent, but the Rogue is so good that you might be tempted to keep him for the duration of Dragon’s Dogma 2.
