The Boys creator reveals why infamous comic book twist got cut from the show

The reason why Boys creator Eric Kripke chose to remove a well-known plot twist from the original comic book has been revealed.

The Boys originally started as a comic book series by Garth Ennis before gaining popularity as the smash hit Prime Video series known today by fans.

Similar to other adaptations, Kripke made an effort to stay faithful to the original material when it came to major elements such as Homelander and other Supes. However, certain characters, subplots, and pacing had to be modified in order to suit the television format.

Kripke openly admitted to Variety that he had no interest in bringing to television one of the most well-known plot twists involving Black Noir in the comics, despite making changes in other areas.

In the comic series, Black Noir is a clone of Homelander and serves as the primary antagonist. It is later revealed that he was the mastermind behind the most terrifying events depicted in the story.

The revelation in the comics that Homelander was not the biggest threat to The Boys is one of the most significant plot twists. This deception mirrors the show’s storyline, where readers were also led to believe that Homelander was the most formidable danger.

Despite Kripke’s desire to take a different approach, he expressed to the outlet that the twist was impressive and unexpected. However, he also shared his preference for the original villain, stating that he would have preferred to continue following that character instead of introducing a clone.

The showrunner further elaborated that incorporating the concept of cloning into the series would be deemed as “too silly and magical.”They emphasized their goal of portraying superheroes as the only unpredictable element, while making all other aspects of the show as realistic as possible.

Despite not being a Homelander clone, the Black Noir viewers see in Season 4 is not the same character as in previous seasons. It has become clear that someone else is now wearing the mask, as Homelander had killed Black Noir in one of the most shocking moments of Season 3.
