The Boys fans discuss potential plot hole with Homelander in Season 4

The fans of The Boys have found a way to justify a plot inconsistency in Season 4 concerning Homelander and his decision not to use a specific superpower during a battle.

Despite facing a difficult time during the first three episodes of The Boys Season 4, Homelander’s mental state has taken a toll as he is currently on trial for murder. This has caused him to deteriorate to the point where he reenacts a famous scene from Twilight.

Despite his fragile state, concerns have arisen among viewers about his competence as a leader for the new supes. One Reddit user highlighted how he misused his powers during a crucial moment in Episode 3.

The fan posted a still from Episode 3 and questioned if there was an explanation within the show as to why he didn’t simply use X-ray vision.

The fan is shining a light on a highly intense interaction involving Homelander, Victoria Neuman, and Hughie Campbell.

During Season 4 Episode 3, Homelander, Victoria, and Sister Sage hold a confidential meeting to strategize removing Starlight from the equation before turning their attention to Victoria’s opponent in the political arena, Robert Singer.

As part of the agreement, they require Victoria to dissolve her anti-Supe agency. This would result in supes having ultimate control over all crime-fighting organizations.

Just before the meeting, Hughie snuck into Vought Headquarters to plant a bug in the air vent system. However, he was caught by Homelander when a drop of his sweat landed on the supe.

Some fans were puzzled as to why Homelander didn’t immediately utilize his X-ray vision to locate Hughie’s hiding spot in the vents, but others had a well-researched explanation ready.

“According to one Reddit user, it is highly probable that the vents were constructed from zinc, as Homelander is unable to see through them. Initially, it may seem strange that he doesn’t simply use his powers, but it is important to consider the significance of zinc in this situation.”

A different fan pointed out that zinc is often used in ductwork to galvanize steel, which helps prevent rust and lower maintenance costs. This means that most HVAC ducts are coated in a material that Homelander cannot see through.

Despite being coated in zinc to prevent corrosion and rust, air ducts in many buildings are also known to hinder one’s sense of taste and smell. This may explain why even with his god-like powers, Homelander was likely affected by the lowly Earth element.
