Fans of The Boys have been using social media to address a long-standing myth that has been perpetuated by Homelander’s actions in Gen V.
Despite a scene in The Boys spin-off Gen V that may have led fans to believe otherwise, there is actually a common misconception surrounding the events of the Season 1 finale. In this episode, Homelander uses his heat beams to blast Marie, but she is later shown to have survived the attack and is seemingly being held captive by Vought.
This has resulted in a misunderstanding that Marie possesses enough strength to withstand Homelander’s beams, which has become a topic of frustration among fans on The Boys’ subreddit.
According to user Middle_Barracuda_872 in a post on Reddit, Homelander has absolute control over his blast. They question if the fan base only watches the show through TikTok.
Indeed, his observation is accurate. Homelander has been using his beams at different levels of power and intensity for several years. A notable instance was in Season 2 when he utilized them to warm up a vial of frozen breast milk accidentally forgotten by the deceased Madelyn Stillwell.
Throughout the series, we witness him often utilizing his intense firing capabilities, as seen in the Season 3 finale when he fatally shot a protestor who posed a threat to Ryan. However, there are also instances where he exercises restraint.
It is evident that he exhibits precise application in certain scenarios, such as when he heats up a gun or obliterates someone’s skull. Additionally, we have observed his ability to manipulate objects in a sweeping motion, as demonstrated when he effortlessly sliced a plane in half during the series premiere.
Additionally, there is the infamous scene in Season 4 where he chooses to use a blast to destroy a man’s genitals instead of cutting him in half. This brutal act serves as a reminder of Homelander’s immense power and control.
In Gen V, Homelander’s intention was clearly to incapacitate and apprehend Marie rather than fatally harm her. Based on the demonstrations of his abilities thus far, it is reasonable to assume that he used a blast of sufficient force to render her unconscious but not cause her death.
When Gen V Season 2 finally releases in 2025, fans will be able to discover the fate of Marie.
