The fourth episode of The Boys Season 4 displayed Homelander at his worst, with fans unanimously agreeing that the scientists who were never given a chance to be known suffered the most out of all those he tortured.
Returning to the Vought facility where he was raised, Homelander makes an appearance in the fourth episode of The Boys Season 4, Wisdom of the Ages. There, he encounters several familiar Vought employees who were responsible for subjecting the young John to torturous tests.
The episode is filled with brutal murders, including one man being burned alive and another having his skull crushed by Homelander, who uses his laser vision to create a hole in the man’s genitals.
According to users on The Boys’ subreddit, the scientists who worked in the lab were the ones who suffered the most. This includes many individuals who were not even present at the facility during Homelander’s childhood.
According to one fan’s comment on Reddit, the other scientists also had a difficult experience. The fear of being the next victim in such a gruesome manner must have been overwhelming. However, their deaths were likely quicker than others.
A different fan interpreted the situation differently, emphasizing the scientists’ experience of watching everything unfold.
“It seems that the slow and agonizing deaths of the other scientists down there are often overlooked,”they stated, referencing a comment on Reddit. “They were forced to witness Homelander’s cruel acts before he ultimately killed them and displayed their remains on the walls of the room where he imprisoned the woman.”
Barbara finds herself sealed into a locked room with the remains of her team as Homelander’s final punishment.
The individuals in question are employees of Vought’s black site and play a relatively small role in the episode. They mainly observe as Homelander sets Frank on fire, crushes Marty’s skull, and taunts Barbara.
Barbara witnesses Homelander kill the scientists in the “Bad Room”, the same place he was confined as a child for his misbehavior. After the gruesome act, she is trapped in the room with the deceased scientists and the door appears to have been welded shut, leaving her with no hope of being found or rescued.
One other fan also observed a disturbing aspect regarding the deaths of the scientists, noting that “Homelander must have torn the other scientists apart. There were no signs of laser marks or burns on their bodies, just pure brutality.”
As mentioned by others, the most heartbreaking aspect is that the majority of the victims seem to be newly hired employees. Homelander even acknowledges the abundance of “new faces”upon his arrival, indicating that while they may not be entirely innocent, they were not the ones who tortured Homelander.
