Showrunner Eric Kripke reveals that while new Supes have been introduced in The Boys Season 4, one of them proved to be the most challenging to write.
Despite the distractions of famous octopus voices, Human Centipede references, and jump-scare buttholes, The Boys Season 4 introduces a few new Supes that fans should take the time to get to know.
One standout member of The Seven is Sister Sage, who has quickly gained a strong following. Known for her unparalleled intelligence, she catches the eye of Homelander and is invited to join the team. However, this particular power also posed a challenge for showrunner Eric Kripke, who acknowledged that her exceptional trait makes her the most difficult character to develop.
According to Variety, during a conversation, it was revealed that one weakness of Homelander is that he is often surrounded by incompetent individuals. In an attempt to make him more formidable, the character of Sage, who is truly brilliant, was created. However, it was a challenging task to write for such a complex character.
Kripke explained that writing the smartest person in the world can be a challenging task. This is because one has to come up with thoughts and ideas that only the smartest person in the world would think of. Since the writers themselves are not the smartest individuals, this can be a difficult task. However, the character of Sage proved to be an intriguing one when someone suggested the idea of making her an African American woman who is constantly ignored by others.
“It was intriguing to see how the character, who had the power to save all of humanity, was often overlooked by others. This added a thought-provoking layer of social commentary to the story. Susan’s portrayal of the character brought her to life in a clever and compelling way.”
Despite being one of the most unpredictable Supes, Sister Sage’s powers have elevated her intelligence above that of The Seven. However, in Season 4 Episode 3, it was revealed that she had taken extreme measures to quiet her mind by undergoing a self-lobotomy.
Reaching the status of “the smartest person in the world”is no easy feat. The writer faced a challenging task in portraying this character, and it has sparked a divide among fans regarding the success of the superhero show in accurately portraying this persona.
According to a Reddit user, although they enjoy the character, they believe that the writers may have exaggerated by labeling her as “the world’s smartest person.”This could potentially create challenges for the writers in accurately portraying a fictional character with such a high level of intelligence.
It would have been better to choose a term like “superintelligence”because it allows for more flexibility in suspending disbelief.
“I hope they are aware of the implications of her character. The portrayal of highly intelligent characters can be tricky. The audience must perceive her actions as intelligent for the character to be effective. Additionally, it will be challenging to create a compelling downfall without compromising her perceived intelligence,”stated another individual.
A third reviewer expressed disappointment with the perceived lack of intelligence of the supposed “smartest person in the world.”While acknowledging her skill in reading people, the reviewer questioned if this was the extent of her abilities. It is possible that her intelligence will be showcased more in future episodes, but as of now, the reviewer would not have guessed her supposed powers without prior knowledge.
