THE BOYZ Risks Losing Group Name Due to Trademark Dispute with One Hundred and IST

Negotiations Over THE BOYZ Trademark Conclude Unsuccessfully

As reported by Ten Asia on December 4, the trademark negotiations between THE BOYZ’s new agency, One Hundred, and their previous agency, IST Entertainment, have collapsed. Initial reports indicated a hope for a resolution regarding the trademark following the group’s transition to One Hundred.

Financial Demands and Stipulations

Sources reveal that IST originally requested an exorbitant sum in the billions of won for the rights associated with the trademark. When One Hundred rejected this demand, IST proposed alternative terms; however, these stipulations reportedly included limitations on THE BOYZ’s musical pursuits, which many considered excessive. One Hundred ultimately deemed these conditions unacceptable.

The Fallout and Impact on the Group

The disintegration of these negotiations represents a setback for all parties. For IST, the trademark “THE BOYZ” carries diminished value without the group’s members, while THE BOYZ faces the loss of a name that is integral to their identity and legacy.

Members of THE BOYZ have voiced their keen wish to retain their group name, reflecting on the cherished memories they’ve built with their fanbase under this title. Reports indicate some members were visibly emotional upon hearing of the negotiation failure, underscoring their strong attachment to the name. Unfortunately, the divergent positions of One Hundred and IST led to this disappointing result.

Future Directions for THE BOYZ

Despite these challenges, One Hundred has indicated that THE BOYZ is set to continue their activities under potential new names such as “The Boys” or “The New Boyz.” This shift signifies an attempt to carry on despite the current setbacks.
