The Bridgerton Showrunner Responds to Fan Theory About Eloise’s Sexuality

Jess Brownell, the showrunner for Bridgerton, has shared her thoughts on the growing queer fan theory surrounding Eloise.

Bridgerton Season 3 primarily focused on the romantic developments between Penelope and Colin, while also incorporating significant alterations to the storylines of Francesca and Benedict.

Despite the revelation that both siblings were queer, fans speculated that Eloise Bridgerton would also follow suit. However, Brownell clarified that the show currently has no plans to address this theory.

During an interview with TVLine, Brownell expressed that there has been a lot of discussion surrounding Eloise’s sexuality and how she may be perceived as queer by many viewers. Brownell acknowledged and empathized with these speculations, but emphasized that it was crucial for the show to have a character, particularly a female one, who isn’t solely focused on romance in a world where it is constantly idealized.

Brownell emphasized, “Our objective is not simply for Eloise to find a suitable partner of a specific gender, but rather for her to genuinely prioritize intellectual pursuits at this time.”

Ever since its premiere in 2020, Bridgerton has portrayed Eloise as the sole Bridgerton woman who focuses on interests beyond the traditional role of a wife and mother.

Eloise’s strong demeanor and close friendship with Penelope Featherington has led many Bridgerton fans to interpret her as a queer character.

The theory finally gained momentum when she and her former rival, Cressida Cowper, began spending more time together in Season 3.

Therefore, it was only natural for fans to assume that she would also be a member of the LGBTQ+ community, after her siblings Benedict and Francesca were revealed to be part of it in Season 3 Part 2.

Although many fans hope for Eloise to become a queer icon, it is uncertain if this will happen as Bridgerton has a reputation for staying faithful to Julia Quinn’s books.

The third season of Bridgerton is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
