The Challenges of Playing Bloodborne on PC with Mods

Modders have successfully achieved running Bloodborne on PC, although it is still far from being considered playable.

On August 18, well-known YouTuber Fromsoftserve, who is recognized for their contributions to the Soulsborne modding community, posted a video featuring FromSoftware’s highly praised game being played on a desktop computer.

Using PlayStation 4 emulation, the in-game footage captured was still a work in progress and experienced significant slowdown and motion blur. As a result, combat was nearly impossible, leading to the tragic death of the Hunter before they could escape Iosekfa’s Clinic.

Despite encountering issues with performance, Fromsoftserve remained undeterred due to their previous experience working on visual overhaul mods for Demon’s Souls and the entire Dark Souls trilogy. They assured fans that their dream of a Bloodborne PC port, while unofficial, is definitely becoming a reality.

“Despite potential skepticism, the team clarified that they were actually rendering frames of Bloodborne in-game, which they viewed as a significant accomplishment. The ability to produce real-time graphics was especially noteworthy.”

The content creator remained optimistic that fans who were keeping up with the port’s development would have the opportunity to play it next year.

The purpose behind all of this hard work is because Bloodborne is still one of the few PS4 exclusives that Sony has not yet made available on PC. While the exact reasons for this decision are unclear, it is worth noting that game director Hidetaka Miyazaki is aware of the overwhelming desire from fans to see the Gothic horror ARPG break free from its last-gen limitations and reach a wider audience.

After streaming his first playthrough in August, Kai Cenat sparked renewed discussions about the possibility of a remake or remaster. The Twitch streamer stated that he wanted to “encourage the idea of making it happen.”

It is hoped by many that Sony will make an announcement regarding Bloodborne before or on the 10th anniversary of its original release date, which falls on March 24, 2025.
