The Chosen Expands into a Biblical Universe with Five New Shows

Predictions of a “Biblical Cinematic Universe”have come to fruition, as The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins launches 5&2 Studios, which is set to unveil a series of new Bible-inspired narratives.

The Chosen will conclude with its seventh season, wrapping up the on-screen depictions of Jesus Christ and his disciples. The series is also slated for a theatrical release in 2024, with Season 4 grossing an impressive $59 million at the global box office.

With the launch of 5&2 Studios, a comprehensive franchise is poised to emerge from the acclaimed religious drama. According to its mission statement, the studio aims to “produce Bible-inspired stories through uniquely human, authentic storytelling and audience engagement.”

The studio plans to create a lineup of new television shows, each serving as spin-offs from The Chosen. Below is a list of upcoming projects in development at 5&2 Studios:

  • The Chosen Adventures
  • The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls
  • Untitled Moses series
  • Untitled Acts of the Apostles series
  • Untitled Joseph series

The “Biblical Universe”kicks off with The Chosen Adventures, an animated series that centers on Jesus’ interactions with children. Jenkins remarked, “There’s room here to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of children in the whimsical format of animation.”

Also on the slate is The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, which will feature Jenkins participating in various challenges alongside Bear Grylls, a dedicated fan of The Chosen, in a six-episode adventure series. Jenkins hinted that this will be just the beginning, stating, “This is the first of multiple partnerships in the unscripted space.”

Once The Chosen concludes with its seventh season, a three-season series focusing on the life of Moses is expected to follow. Jenkins described it as an “epic story,”portraying Moses as “a reluctant Tony Soprano, basically the guy who was being tasked with leading the largest family in the world — and didn’t want it.”

Lastly, two additional series in development include the Acts of the Apostles and the Story of Joseph. Jenkins noted that the Joseph narrative “can be told in eight episodes,”while details for the Apostles series remain under wraps.

The Chosen began as a crowdfunded indie short in 2017, and now, seven years later, Jenkins’ universe is expanding with its own studio and cinematic releases. Marvel Jesus, anyone?
