The controversy over the Act 2 massacre in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-driven game and you will often encounter scenarios that impact both players and characters. However, there is a scene in Act 2 where the reactions of the characters in the game are quite confusing.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a deep game where every decision has a huge impact on the events of the story. There is a point in the game where the tieflings you encounter in Act 1 will end up dead in Act 2, and you can see their bodies on the road.

However, Tav and the rest of the group have a surprisingly detached reaction to the deaths of these tieflings. This reaction has perplexed many players, with some feeling disappointed by this particular section.

Discussion around the topic was started by the player who posted, “Every time I replay this game and save the tieflings from the grove, I’m struck by how detached Tav is when you discover all the dead tieflings scattered across the lands cursed by shadow.”

They also said, “I spent so much time saving them! I celebrated with them! Granted, most of those who were at the party didn’t die there, but still.”

Other players joined in the conversation, many of them expressing similar thoughts, with one player responding, “I always thought there should be more reaction from the group finding them Also.”Another user added, “It doesn’t matter too much, but I’m trying to trigger the Karlach dialogue for this place. I’m not sure if others are more compassionate.”

One user also commented, “Yeah, the first time I played I was like, uh, I JUST saved these guys lol,” while another user suggested, “I guess they could do what they did for the dead gnomes. Give you a mini cutscene and choose how you react to seeing the dead bodies.”

So it’s safe to assume that many players were disappointed by this reaction. Baldur’s Gate 3 is often considered a flawless game when it comes to its story, narration, gameplay, and dialogue. However, this seems to be a rare instance where players feel the whole situation could have been handled better by the developers.
