The Creature of Kyongsong: Explanation of the ending scene

Between drama and chaos, the situation is far from calming down in The Creature of Kyongsong. Especially after the scene preceding the end credits of the second part, which will not fail to surprise the spectators.

Chae-ok and Tae-sang were put to the test during the revelations about the atrocities at Onseong Hospital and the truth behind his monster. Their journey was marked by numerous injuries, heartbreaks and quite a few dangerous stunts.

The Creature from Kyongsong is set in Japanese-occupied Korea, where Tae-sang and Chae-ok join forces in an effort to find missing people. Between the discovery of the experiences, the najins, the real identity of the monster but also their own feelings, the story is far from stopping.

It was announced that the series had been given the green light for a season 2 even before part 2 aired on Netflix. And the scene before the end credits of The Creature of Kyongsong already shows the new, but familiar world that the next chapter will explore.

What could this scene reveal about the sequel to the Korean series on Netflix? We give you our interpretation.

Warning: spoilers ahead!

Who is the man in the scene before the credits?

In modern Korea, a man wearing denim clothing sports a large scar on the back of his neck. Although called by another name, this man turns out to be Tae-sang, or at least his double.

The second part of Kyongsong’s Creature takes a unique turn and leaves fans perplexed in the face of breathtaking suspense. After learning that Chae-ok was still alive following the transfer of his mother’s najin, the K-drama went dark before showing a scene before the credits.

On a small television, we see archives from the time when Korea was liberated from Japanese occupation. Advances in the Korean government, World Cup matches, and men in white protective suits spraying what appears to be disinfectant. We also see a missile launch and K-pop stars.

The camera then pulls back to show the back of a man’s neck with a large scar. He opens the window to reveal a modern Korea, ready to launch a rocket. Suddenly, a man calls him Ho-jae. The stranger turns around and we discover that it is none other than Tae-sang. Or at least, a version of Tae-sang.

The scene before the credits is a bit confusing. The K-drama taking place in 1945 and the television set showing a long passage of time through historical events, we understand that the series has initiated a long time ellipse. However, the hero seems to be the same age as in the Onseong hospital story. How is it possible?

“And now we still have to wait for season 2 of Kyongsong’s Creature. / Their outfits for Season 2 of Kyongsong’s Creature look so modern, sooooo maybe there’s going to be a huge timeskip/time travel?? I don’t know”

The scar on the back of the neck is also open to question. Especially as fans know, the people who have ingested najin can be counted on the fingers of one hand: Chae-ok, his mother, Akiko, and probably also Mrs. Maeda after a visit from an old friend.

Has Tae-sang also joined the popular club of mutants? When we know that the najin goes to the brain to better parasitize its host, we can assume that the scar was a way to get rid of it. But there still remains the question of the timing of ingestion. If it took place during the series, then you have to look for the moments when Tae-sang drank something. And the only scene meeting the conditions is the one where he has a drink with his long-time friend, Joon-taek.

Of course, Tae-sang may very well have ingested the najin in events that will be revealed in season 2. He may also have found another solution to regenerate and cross the ages. Finally, nothing says that he is truly the master of the House of Treasures.

In the meantime, the first season of The Kyongsong Creature is now available in full on Netflix.
