The Creature of Kyongsong: The final cliffhanger already prepares us for season 2

The destiny of Chae-ok and Tae-sang is not to stop with the first season of The Creature of Kyongsong, because season 2 already promises to explore many avenues.

Even before the K-drama arrived on Netflix, season 2 of The Creature from Kyongsong had already been announced. Better: the cast has already celebrated the end of filming for the next chapter. As the sequel could already enter post-production, the presence of cliffhangers at the end of part 2 was not surprising.

However, the finale still managed to take fans by surprise, in a twist that clearly changed the situation for the characters of season 1. From Najin to the fate of Chae-ok, including what happened to Tae-sang, a lot of events will have to be presented in the second season. How will all these elements connect, and what does the cliffhanger mean for the sequel to Kyongsong’s Creature?

We give you a summary of all the intrigues of The Creature of Kyongsong and what they can imply for season 2.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

The birth of a najin child and the return of Mrs. Maeda

Throughout both parts of The Creature of Kyongsong, Akiko carries Ishikawa’s future child. Just before his death, the child is born and turns out to be infected with najin. Similarly, Maeda-sama is asked to drink water that is probably infected with najin.

At the end of part 1, we learned that the person who drank the glass of water was going to be infected with najin. But above all, it was Akiko, then pregnant with Ishikawa. In part 2, the young woman barely manages to resist the parasite, killing many innocent people before being captured again by the hospital soldiers. She is brought back there, but she goes into labor during the attack orchestrated by the rebels.

Kato finds her, and “helps” her deliver the child – killing the mother in the process. And as he observes the newborn, he understands that the najin has passed into his body. When the baby opens his eyes, they are a bright green, disturbing: the little one is not entirely human.

The pre-credits scene reveals a big jump in time, bringing the plot to a more contemporary Korea. It is therefore highly likely that the child will appear as a full-fledged adult in season 2, and that he will have developed powers similar to those of Seishin.

As for Mrs. Maeda, Kato visits her after the attack at the end of part 2. We discover her burned, but very much alive. And while the subject of returning to Japan is broached, the soldier suggests that the woman explore new paths, while leaving her alone with… a glass of water. Knowing Kato’s habits, the message is clear: this water contains one of the najins.

Chae-ok is still alive at the end of Kyongsong’s Creature

While protecting Tae-sang from his mother, Chae-ok dies in her arms. But a scene at the end of the series shows us that she ingests Seishin’s najin, which brings her back to life.

The end of part 2 will not have left spectators indifferent: after sacrificing herself for Tae-sang, offering him a final declaration, Chae-ok died in his arms. At least, until a sequence taking place underwater with his mother who transmits his najin to him. The K-drama then offers an interesting parallel between the transition from Seishin to Chae-ok, with that of Akiko and her baby, the water recalling the mother’s womb. It is therefore confirmed: najin can be transmitted, and by obtaining it, Chae-ok may even be able to master it or unlock the same abilities as his mother without having to suffer anthrax.

On X/Twitter, fans shared photos from the filming of Season 2 of Kyongsong Creature showing Han So-hee and Park Seo-joon. The actors appear to be reprising their roles, but in modern Korea. Chae-ok could therefore have obtained immortality with his mother’s najin.

Is Tae-sang also immortal at the end of Kyongsong’s Creature?

The pre-credits scene of Kyongsong’s Creature Part 2 reveals that Tae-sang is still alive in contemporary Korea. Although he hasn’t aged a single bit, he has nevertheless changed his name and is now called Ho-jae.

“And now we still have to wait for season 2 of Kyongsong’s Creature. / Their outfits for Season 2 of Kyongsong’s Creature look so modern, sooooo maybe there’s going to be a huge timeskip/time travel?? I don’t know”

This is the biggest mystery of the series, which has also decided to end its first season on stage. Tae-sang – or his double – sports an impressive scar on the back of his neck, and clearly lives in a more modern Korea. If it’s Tae-sang, how did he do it?

We will clearly have to wait for season 2 to be sure of the fate of the heroes of The Creature of Kyongsong. But while waiting for the sequel, the two parts of the first season are both available on Netflix.
