The Crow director hints a “Dark Knight” level sequel may be in the works

Despite concluding the ending of The Crow, director Rupert Sanders suggested that a sequel with a similar level of intensity as “Dark Knight”may still be a possibility.

In 2024, The Crow will be rebooted from the 1994 movie, focusing on the story of Eric Draven and Shelley. This star-crossed couple finds love in each other, but their lives are tragically cut short when they are brutally killed.

Despite his previous failures, Draven is granted another opportunity to make things right, all thanks to the intervention of mysterious supernatural powers. This leads him down a dark road of seeking vengeance, aided by the aid of otherworldly crows.

Although Sanders wrapped up the new movie neatly, he is open to the possibility of creating a sequel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he expressed his thoughts, “Could a second installment be possible? Absolutely. Bill [Skarsgård]’s portrayal of Eric is exceptional, and by the end of the film, his character has evolved into something entirely different. In a sense, it’s like the beginnings of Batman’s story, and I believe Bill’s version of the Dark Knight could be just around the corner.”

After completing his revenge against those who murdered the couple, Draven trades his soul for Shelley’s in the ending of The Crow. As a result, she is brought back to life and returns to Earth while Draven remains in the underworld.

Despite not being a clear cut open ending, the introduction of Draven’s newfound abilities could pave the way for an intriguing sequel. Sanders elaborated, stating, “The concept of him navigating between different realms and existence, between life and death, is captivating. So there are countless possibilities for what that may entail.”

Despite having ideas for another Crow movie, the director emphasized that the 2024 adaptation is a complete film with a definitive ending.

“According to Sander, the modern world is characterized by people sharing small bits of information that are then amplified by countless typing laptops. However, he points out that these individuals often lack the ability to verify the accuracy of their claims.”

In my opinion, this movie stands out on its own. I dislike movies that require you to watch a sequel. A movie should have a satisfying ending that complements the story, and this movie achieves that.

Despite the low Rotten Tomatoes score the 2024 Crow sequel received, Sanders may not have to be concerned about its future.

The Crow is currently being shown in movie theaters.
