The Elusive Samurai: Episode 2 Recap
During their travels to Shinano, Tokiyuki, Yorishige, Shizuku, Ayako, and Kojiro are forced to take refuge in an abandoned house because the city exits are heavily guarded. While Tokiyuki is sleeping, Yorishige keeps a watchful eye on him and tries to kiss him on the cheek. However, Tokiyuki manages to evade the kiss by jumping onto a nearby beam, much to the surprise of the others. Despite Tokiyuki’s worries about leaving Kamakura, Shizuku assures him that they will be able to pass once the guards have left.
As Tokiyuki looks out the windows, he observes the standards of the former Hojo clan subordinates and comes to the realization that Takauji’s kindness was merely a facade. This realization causes him to doubt the trustworthiness of their current allies. He begins to question whether Yorishige truly believes in his ability to seek revenge. While passing through a ruined village, they accidentally overhear a conversation that reveals Kunitoki’s death, which was orchestrated by Godaiin’s betrayal to the Nitta clan. Overwhelmed with despair, Tokiyuki becomes suspicious of everyone and even vomits in his distress.
Yorishige uses holy light to soothe Tokiyuki, stating that he envisions Godaiin being surrounded by soldiers.
