The False Narrative of Kawaki’s Jealousy for Boruto Could Be a Result of Eida’s Omnipotence

After witnessing Kawaki’s conversation with Eida in the final chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga, it became apparent that her Omnipotence had swapped places with Boruto. This led to speculation among fans that Kawaki’s words were driven by feelings of envy towards the main character.

However, it appears that this is not the case, as Kawaki’s feelings towards his adoptive brother were not rooted in jealousy, but rather in genuine care and concern. Unfortunately, his words were misconstrued, leading to fans misunderstanding Kawaki’s true character and unintentionally overlooking one of manga creator Masashi Kishimoto’s most well-written characters.

This article includes spoilers from the Boruto manga.

What Was the True Meaning Behind Kawaki’s Conversation with Eida in Boruto?

Prior to being adopted by Seventh Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, Kawaki had already experienced abuse from both his biological and adoptive fathers. However, everything changed for the better when he joined the Uzumaki family. Unfortunately, their newfound happiness was short-lived due to the presence of Momoshiki, who posed a threat to Naruto. In order to protect Naruto, Kawaki was willing to do whatever it takes.

Fans believe that Kawaki’s envy towards Boruto stems from a moment where he was overheard telling Eida, “If only he (Boruto) was an outsider like myself.”This statement suggests that had Momoshiki’s vessel been someone from outside the Hidden Leaf Village, they may have been swiftly eliminated. However, due to the vessel being the Hokage’s son, it caused complications for those wanting to dispose of him.

Knowing that none of the villagers in the Hidden Leaf would carry out the execution of the Hokage’s son, Kawaki was left with no choice but to take on the task and eliminate the greater danger. However, his actions were misunderstood by fans who mistakenly believed that Kawaki was envious of his adopted brother and desired to claim his position.

Although the switch itself was beyond anyone’s control, there is a possibility that Eida’s Omnipotence caused their places to be switched due to her misinterpretation of Kawaki’s words, as shown in the manga. However, the cyborg had no power over her Shinjutsu.

As a result, when Kawaki expressed his desire for Boruto to be an outsider like him, the Omnipotence ability likely chose to simply swap the positions of the Hokage’s son and Kawaki. This effectively transformed the Momoshiki vessel into an outsider, fulfilling Kawaki’s wish.

Despite never wanting to be like the protagonist, Kawaki still saw him as a brother. This is evident in his reluctance to have Himawari Uzumaki address him as she did her real brother in the Two Blue Vortex manga. However, Kawaki’s fear of Momoshiki’s threat to Naruto caused him to prioritize that over his feelings for his adoptive brother, leading fans to misinterpret their conversation.

Shortly after, while conversing with Eida, Kawaki was overheard saying, “Why does it have to be him..”Many fans interpreted this as Kawaki questioning why Boruto was chosen to be Naruto’s son instead of him. However, in actuality, he was questioning why he was chosen to become the vessel for Momoshiki.

As a result of Kawaki’s panicked conversation with Eida, the cyborg’s Shinjutsu caused a switch between Kawaki and Boruto. This not only resulted in fans misinterpreting Kawaki’s personality, but also one of Masashi Kishimoto’s most well-crafted characters. With any luck, fans will come to understand the true intention behind Kawaki’s words.
