Best Character in The First Descendant (September 2024 Meta) – Recommended
Among the four characters in our S-Tier, Bunny is our top recommendation for players looking to deal rapid damage while on the move, while Ajax shines as a robust Tank build, easily smashing through foes. Both characters have proven to be standout choices in the current meta based on our extensive testing.
Bunny has consistently been recognized as the game’s top character, excelling in mob situations, boss fights, and elemental damage. After update 1.1.0, Bunny’s skills, “Lightning Emission” and “High-Voltage,” received adjustments that enhance her quick damage dealing as she navigates the map.
Ajax can shield himself and his teammates with a Forcefield.
Ajax has also received significant buffs with improved “Orbit Barrier” and “Hyper Cube” barrier skills that now interact with attribute resistances and significantly increase barrier HP and DEF ratios. His enhanced Void Walk and Void Charge skills make him an excellent starter character.
Gley’s stats have stayed consistent since the last update, but Lepic’s rise to S-Tier is notable, as he has become an outstanding pick for beginners.
With the 1.1.0 update, Lepic’s AoE abilities now deal more damage and cover a wider range, making him ideal for crowd control. Though Ajax is a solid Tank option, Lepic has proven to be sometimes underrated.
His powerful instant damage skill combined with a module that boosts his firearm ATK forms an awesome combo.
Who is the Best Character?
According to the The First Descendant subreddit and character popularity, Bunny stands out as the best character in the game. Her shocking electric attacks excel in mob situations and can clear areas even without a firearm.
The Thunder Cage SMG is the top weapon for Bunny.
Bunny’s builds using the Thunder Cage are among the most powerful skills available in The First Descendant. As a Nuker, she can dart between enemies seamlessly while delivering damage, enabling your DPS characters to clear zones quickly.
Now, we will dive deeply into each character on our tier list, ranking them from top to bottom.
S-Tier Characters in The First Descendant
Bunny
Bunny is acclaimed as the fastest and most powerful character in The First Descendant, operating as a Nuker. She constantly deals damage while sprinting and unleashing impressive waves of electricity. The more distance she covers, the greater the range of the shockwaves produced by her Active ability.
Additionally, she can summon an Electro Orb, effectively electrocuting nearby enemies. Her most remarkable talent allows her to strike enemies while on the move, often obviating the need for firearms. Her sheer power can eliminate large waves of foes, including tougher enemies.
Ajax
Ajax is recognized as the premier Tank character in The First Descendant, also serving as a fantastic starter character. With impressive defensive skills, he can create barriers and shielding bubbles to protect himself and his team during missions.
Although Ajax’s offensive capabilities might not be remarkable, he adds significant value at the beginning of a mission and is invaluable during challenging encounters. His unique stomp ability allows him to leap into the air and slam down, stunning nearby foes to create openings for his team.
Glee
Gley excels as a Utility Dealer in The First Descendant, providing players with a unique experience. Unlike other characters who build their ultimate skill meter, Gley regains health with each kill, allowing her to enter a Frenzied state. While her normal state deals standard damage, she struggles against enemies.
However, her Frenzied state drastically boosts her damage output, enabling her to recover less health during that time. Moreover, her Increased Sensory ability grants her infinite ammo for a duration during Frenzy, making her an unstoppable force against enemies.
Lepic
Lepic has recently been elevated to S-tier status, functioning as a DPS character in The First Descendant and is one of the three starter characters at your disposal. His skills are highly effective due to his grenade throws, which comprise most of his AoE attacks.
Though he might not provide significant team support, Lepic can extricate himself and teammates from difficult situations while hurling powerful shells and Traction Grenades. His AoE skills are among the best in the game, making him a solid choice for anyone favoring a damage dealer playstyle.
A-Tier Characters in The First Descendant
Yujin
Yujin stands out as an exceptional Healer in The First Descendant and serves as the ultimate Support role in any team. His primary responsibility is to heal colleagues and revive those who fall in battle. A revived player receives substantial HP boosts for a limited duration.
In addition, Yujin introduces a recovery drone that heals teammates during gameplay. This drone is perhaps the best aspect of his repertoire, as it significantly enhances the survivability and attack power of teammates like Ajax.
His Restructure Serum ability also provides enemy debuffs, permitting support characters and damage dealers to mount potent offensive actions against foes.
Jayber
Jayber performs impressively as a hidden gem among The First Descendant roster. Players often overlook his remarkable turret-summoning abilities, which can effectively eliminate the need for any personal firearms.
As a Utility Dealer, Jayber’s effectiveness depends heavily on the placement of his turrets. Properly positioned, they can dramatically benefit the team in tough skirmishes and bolster teammate revivals. Moreover, you can utilize Jayber for controlling areas during defense missions, aiding team efforts considerably.
Valby
Valby is a powerful Constant DPS character in The First Descendant, renowned for her ability to inflict AoE damage on enemies through water-oriented abilities.
She can create puddles that continuously harm foes and can become liquefied to sweep through enemies, inflicting damage as a watery trail. Valby’s effectiveness hinges on strategic positioning, making her an excellent asset in team-based engagements.
Hailey
Hailey was introduced in Season 1 of The First Descendant and is celebrated for her ability to deliver significant damage from a distance using her anti-material sniper weapon and control foes with cryo effects.
Her weapon buffs, particularly Cold Fury, enhance her Firearm ATK, making her powerhouse during boss fights. While she excels at long-range damage, she often struggles with clearing mobs during missions.
B-Tier Characters in The First Descendant
Export
Viessa is among the early-game starter characters in The First Descendant and, as a Debuffer, she specializes in crowd control by freezing and slowing enemies.
Despite being limited in high-damage potential compared to other characters, she can significantly aid teammates in pushing through enemy defenses, making her suitable for supportive play.
Blair
Blair excels as a DoT (Damage over time) character in The First Descendant, delivering severe fire damage to enemies. He’s enjoyable to play but suffers from low HP due to weakened defense capabilities.
Despite his ability to deal considerable damage over extended periods, his low defense makes him less versatile in combat and his slow cooldown spells can frustrate players in fast-paced scenarios.
Freyna
Freyna is another DoT dealer in The First Descendant, specializing in poison rather than fire like Blair. She can create Poison Clouds to deal damage over time and generate Toxic Swamp puddles to harm larger enemy groups.
Although she deals continuous damage, her lack of immediate offensive capabilities limits her value in team dynamics compared to Bunny’s rapid and powerful assaults.
Kyle
If you’re looking for an Iron Man-like gameplay experience, Kyle may be the right pick in The First Descendant. He gains Magnetic Force while flying, functioning as a Bruiser, similar to Ajax, while not quite matching his capabilities.
Although he can create barriers and inflict solid damage using Magnetic Force, he’s best suited for those keen to take on front-line roles within their team.
Officer
Luna functions primarily as a buffer and healer in The First Descendant, excelling in support roles while struggling to inflict considerable damage on enemies. Although her ability to strengthen allies is valuable, she has a steep skill ceiling that may present challenges for new players.
As a crowd-control character, Luna primarily relies on the DPS players in the team, using her musical skills to augment their performance. If you are proficient with music games like Guitar Hero, you’ll adapt quickly to Luna’s abilities.

C-Tier Characters in The First Descendant
Esiemo
Esiemo serves as a Burst DPS character who employs explosives similarly to Lepic. He can affix detonators to foes and detonate them at opportune moments for impactful area damage.
However, his passive ability that drops a bomb upon shield depletion is not particularly engaging, and his other skills tend to be somewhat monotonous. Esiemo may ultimately become frustrating to play, making him a character to steer clear of.
For further insight, check out our best build for Esiemo.
Enzo
Enzo functions as a support character dedicated to resupplying ammunition for teammates during missions. His passive skill enhances allies’ maximum ammo capacity, reducing his effectiveness in solo play.
His heavy reliance on team play limits his functionality primarily to cooperative missions, whether in defense scenarios or while raiding an outpost.
For those interested in maximizing his utility, here’s our best build for Enzo.
Deleted
Last on our list is Sharen, a melee combat specialist in The First Descendant known for her Ninja abilities wielding a Laser Sword. She primarily focuses on close-range damage against foes.
Despite her potentials of becoming invisible and boosting damage on subsequent attacks, she struggles with versatility and can only target one enemy at a time, which can hinder effectiveness in group encounters. Sharen is generally considered the weakest of the Descendants and is better avoided during gameplay.
For more details, check out our best build for Sharen.
That concludes our tier list for The First Descendant, highlighting the best characters available for players.
