Nexon has announced the outcome of its initial efforts to combat cheating and other forms of misconduct in The First Descendant. This initiative has led to the permanent banning of more than 1,700 players from the game.
In the wake of their announcement to address “inappropriate behavior”in The First Descendant, the developers have reported banning well over a thousand users from Friday, July 12 to Thursday, July 18.
Nexon announced on The First Descendant’s website, through a notice posted, that they are currently conducting an examination of any forms of toxic gaming behavior to ensure a positive gaming experience for all players.
In addition, they urged any players who observe any “unusual or offensive actions”to report it.
According to the post, 1,305 users were permanently banned for engaging in activities such as creating, distributing, or using unauthorized programs.
The number of players banned in this crackdown increased to 1,733 as an additional 428 were permanently banned for “Exploitation of all processes related to the Open Store.”Nexon defined this as gaining unfair advantages through exploiting the store’s payment process.
The developer also informed that individuals who feel they have been unfairly banned for Open Store violations can request an appeal by reaching out to Support or the specific platform through which they made the purchase.
Despite community outcry and Nexon’s acknowledgment of AFKing as an issue in its Hotfix 1.0.3 patch notes, there were no indications of any plans to implement lesser punishments for general toxicity or to address the issue of AFK players.
Nexon stated in the patch notes that they will be carefully monitoring recent trends related to AFK and is currently exploring potential solutions to address the issue. They also acknowledged the importance of taking a cautious approach in resolving the problem.
The First Descendant is just one of many games that have announced a major wave of permabans. On July 16, Once Human also took similar measures.
