In 2020, The Gentlemen was released, a film marking Guy Ritchie’s return to the cinema that had made his reputation. Its crazy casting brought together Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and Henry Holding in a story of drug empires reminiscent of the director’s debut.
If in the meantime the filmmaker continued to release other films (An Angry Man, The Covenant or Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre), he still chose to return to the world of drug lords. This time, it is for Netflix that he created a series, also entitled The Gentlemen.

The Gentlemen will be streaming on Netflix from March 7, 2024.
Guy Ritchie is the co-writer, collaborating with Matthew Read. He also directed the first three episodes, while serving as executive producer.
In a statement for Tudum, Guy Ritchie explained the world of The Gentlemen was like his own, before adding: “I’m delighted that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage, we have this opportunity to return to it once again. more. We can’t wait to bring fans back to this world, introduce new characters and their stories and I’m excited to do it with this extremely talented cast.”

Cast of the Netflix series The Gentlemen: Who stars in it?
The Gentlemen is led by Theo James in the lead role, that of Eddie Halstead, the son of an English aristocrat. He is supported by Kaya Scodalerio in the role of Susie Glass.

The series takes place in the same world as the film The Gentlemen, but it is not directly related to it. It is therefore unlikely to see cameos from Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Dockery, or even Charlie Hunnam and Hugh Grant.
Plot of the Netflix series The Gentlemen: What is the series about?
Netflix presents the series with this synopsis: “When Eddie, an aristocrat, inherits the family estate, he discovers a huge weed empire… And the operators have no intention of abandoning it!”
The series should avoid repeating the plot of the film, preferring a sequel or a parallel story. Spectators will indeed meet new characters, always revolving around the same subject: the drug empire in England.
During an interview with Empire, Guy Ritchie explained about the format of the series and its production: “We’re allowed to tell a lot of things, [which] lends itself to the way I create. […] Once you’ve created [the characters], you feel like you can explore and enjoy them for a little longer, rather than having to wrap up their story neatly in two hours. I love this world of long formats, so I’m thinking of continuing and doing other things for television.”
