The Great Gatsby and Other Literary Classics Get Manga Adaptations by Kadokawa

In March 2025, KADOKAWA will debut a manga adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, under their new label, KADOKAWA Masterpiece Comics. This decision was announced on Monday, June 3, 2024.

“Published in 1925, The Great Gatsby is a renowned classic novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, near New York City, and follows the story of the narrator, Nick Carraway, as he becomes entangled in the enigmatic world of the millionaire Jay Gatsby and his peculiar ways.”

On Monday, June 3, 2024, KADOKAWA introduced a new series called “KADOKAWA Masterpiece Comics,”also known as KMC. The purpose of the series is to turn the world’s most renowned works, selected by avid readers, into humorous comics.

KADOKAWA has announced that they will be adapting American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby into a manga. Although the manga artist responsible for the adaptation has not yet been revealed, the release of the manga is planned for March 2025.

KADOKAWA has currently revealed plans to release five upcoming works. One of these works will be a manga adaptation of Paul Gallico’s novel The Silent Miaow, created by Katana Sajima. The debut is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The upcoming manga adaptations include Kunio Yanagita’s The Legends of Tono, illustrated by Kujiraba, which is set to release in September 2024. This will be followed by Tamaki Nakamura’s adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, which will debut in November 2024.

The upcoming manga adaptations for 2025 will begin with the release of Yasutaka Tsutsui’s Lipstick on an Afterimage, illustrated by manga artist Hiroaki Terada, in January. This will be followed by the debut of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby manga in March. However, the series has yet to announce the author of the manga, as mentioned previously.

KADOKAWA has taken the lead in adapting beloved books from around the world and forgotten gems into manga series, ensuring that these stories will continue to be hailed as “masterpieces”even a hundred years from now. Through the comicalization process, talented up-and-coming manga artists are able to bring a modern and entertaining perspective to the design and storytelling.
