Undoubtedly, Zabuza Momochi was one of the most renowned shinobi from the Hidden Mist Village. He was the initial adversary that Team 7 encountered in the series, and was also a member of a notorious group of shinobi known as the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, who attempted to invade the Hidden Leaf Village.
Despite rumors that the swordsmen were capable of destroying an entire nation, they invaded the Hidden Leaf Village. However, the village was ultimately saved by a person who lacked the ability to use ninjutsu. Though not well-remembered by fans, this person was the father of Guy, known as Might Duy.

The Seven Swordsmen of the Mist were a group of highly skilled Hidden Mist Shinobi, always consisting of seven members. Each member was known for wielding one of the most deadly swords, which were passed down through generations. Despite their importance, the series only focused on one member of the group, Zabuza Momochi.
Among the classic Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, only Zabuza, who wielded Kubikiribuchou, was different. The remaining members included Fuguki and Samehada, Jinin and Kabutowar, Raiga and Kiba, and Kushimaru and Nuibari, who respectively wielded Hiramekirei and Shibuki.
Every blade was distinct and held a destructive force that catered to the individual strengths of the group members. In the time of the Fourth Mizukage, these Hidden Mist Shinobi deserted their village, which was engulfed in corruption.
Amidst the chaos of the Third Great Ninja War, the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist launched an invasion on the Hidden Leaf Village, sparking speculation among fans that their goal was to destroy the village. In response, three genin from the Leaf, including Might Guy, bravely stood against the notorious swordsmen. Despite their bravery, the genin were well aware of the formidable reputation of the Seven Swordsmen and feared for their lives.
Thankfully, Might Duy arrived just in time to rescue his son and the other shinobi. Despite Guy’s protests that he was no match for the powerful shinobi, his father urged them to escape and trust in his abilities. Tragically, Duy lost his life in the battle, but not before using his final technique, the Eight Gate of Death of the Eight Inner Gate Formation, to defeat four of the swordsmen.
If Duy had not arrived in time, the Hidden Leaf Village could have been invaded by the seven swordsmen, and the world could have seen the rumor of these powerful swordsmen capable of destroying a nation come to fruition. Duy passed on this technique to Guy, who in turn taught it to Rock Lee.
The Eight Inner Gate Formation: An Underrated Technique with Limitless Potential
In the Hidden Leaf Village, numerous clans can be considered the most powerful due to their kekkai genkai. For example, the Hyuga clan is known for their Byakugan while the Uchiha clan possesses the renowned Sharingan, both of which possess unmatched abilities.
Although it was a forbidden technique, the Eight Inner Gate Formation was still highly valued in his village, considered one of its prized possessions. Duy demonstrated its power against the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and later Might Guy proved it against Madara in the Fourth Great Ninja War, solidifying its reputation as one of the most underrated techniques in the series.
