The History of the One Piece World: Uncovering the Truth Behind its Scattered Islands

Before, the world of One Piece did not have its current vast and distinctive geography. The whole world was submerged in water, with only a narrow band of land surrounding the globe and small islands scattered throughout the bodies of water.

According to various theories and evidence throughout the series, it can be inferred that the world in One Piece is similar to Earth, with multiple continents. It is also speculated that there may be a hidden world beneath the sea. The reason for this phenomenon remains unknown, but let us delve deeper to uncover the truth.

Wano’s Truth Impacts The World Continents

The Wano we were familiar with consisted of a cluster of islands. However, as a result of flooding, the present-day Wano is merely a small portion of the original Wano that had been submerged in the ocean for a significant period of time.

In what way does this affect the continents of the world? Wano represents the mythology of the greater One Piece universe. The country was seized by an illegitimate ruler, and a prophecy was passed down that the dawn would be restored upon Joy Boy’s return. This same scenario also unfolded in the broader world, with the celestial dragon seizing control, the Will of D being inherited, and the world anticipating Joy Boy’s return.

Similarly, each small island in Wano boasts its own distinct weather patterns and culture, mirroring the diversity found throughout the rest of the world. This suggests that Wano’s history and traditions may be intertwined with the larger world, implying that the current One Piece universe could potentially be concealed beneath the ocean’s depths.

Oda’s Hint in The Fish-Man Island Arc

Oda provided numerous clues about the flood, with one significant hint being the appearance of NOAH in The Fish-Man Island arc. This arc also alluded to a new world emerging, where all could bask in the sunlight. The symbolism of the sea level receding and revealing new land perfectly ties together various elements of the story.

During the Jinbe cover story, a Poneglyph was discovered in an underwater ancient ruin. Oda did not provide any details about the origin or creator of the ruin. It is speculated that it could possibly be the remains of an ancient city. The Fish-Man Island arc is the only instance where specific information about the depths of the sea and underwater structures were revealed. This raises the question of whether there could be more ruins, cities, and vast landmasses hidden beneath the ocean’s surface.

Destruction of Lulusia

In chapter 1089, there was a noticeable increase of one meter in the world’s sea levels. This could be seen as a deliberate choice by Oda following the destruction of Lulusia, serving as a means to illustrate the consequences of a calamity and the far-reaching influence of Imu and the World Government.

This further implies that global disasters have the potential to alter the Earth’s sea level significantly, suggesting that similar events may have occurred on a larger magnitude in the past. After all, the majority of the One Piece world is composed of vast oceans.

It should be highlighted that Lulusia’s downfall could potentially be attributed to an Ancient Weapon, such as Uranus, whose whereabouts remain undisclosed.

The basis of this theory is the reliance of the unknown weapon on the Mother Flame for fuel, as well as Dr. Vegapunk’s efforts to replicate the Ancient Kingdom’s power source. If this holds true, it is possible that the increasing sea levels are a result of the utilization of Ancient Weapons rather than solely their destructive capabilities on islands.

Understanding the Cause of the Flood: Insights from Dr. Vegapunk

During the Void Century, Dr. Vegapunk delves into the topic of Joy Boy and the War in chapter 1115. He details a colossal confrontation between Joy Boy and the World Government, highlighting Joy Boy’s immense strength. In order to combat him, 20 nations banded together in alliances.

It is believed that Joy Boy’s nation existed 900 years in the past and that the war took place during that time. The advanced weaponry utilized during the conflict remains impossible to reproduce, posing a dilemma in the present day.

The conclusion of the Void Century was marked by Joy Boy’s defeat, but it had a lasting impact on the world of One Piece. The catastrophic climate shift of that era resulted in the submersion of the entire world, causing a 200-meter increase in sea levels. The existing islands are now only remnants of the lost continents that once thrived.

Moreover, Vegapunk discloses that the flood was a result of human utilization of ancient weapons. This raises the question: is it possible that the ultimate One Piece treasure is the submerged landmasses and the liberty that lies beneath the sea? And could it be that Luffy is the sole individual with the ability to uncover the One Piece?
