During the filming of his iconic scene, Henry Cavill was left feeling “sick to his stomach” by Deadpool and Wolverine.
The film Deadpool & Wolverine featured numerous memorable cameos, but the standout was certainly Henry Cavill as Cavillrine, a variant of Wolverine.
The actor flawlessly embodied the role of the clawed hero, sporting Wolverine’s iconic horned hairstyle and trademark cigar-chomping habit.
Despite only appearing in the movie for a brief period, Cavill committed himself to the role by chain-smoking throughout an eight-hour shoot, resulting in him becoming quite sick.
According to director Shawn Levy, during the shoot day, Henry Cavill not only maintained his pumped-up muscular body but also kept his cigar lit and in his mouth for the entire duration. Despite being sick to his stomach the next day from inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, Cavill never once wavered.
Despite his smoking habit, Cavill fully dedicated himself to his Marvel role, even sharing a photo of himself in costume on Instagram with the caption, “To ensure authenticity, I shaved off my moustache. Just the moustache.”
The picture also served as a subtle jab at his artificial-looking appearance, which was featured in some of the reworked footage of Justice League.
Due to his recent growth of a mustache for his role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Paramount refused to let the actor shave it off for his reprisal as Superman.
Due to this, Warner Bros. was compelled to rely on CGI in order to remove Cavill’s facial hair, resulting in a slightly odd appearance of his mouth in the finished version of the DC film.
Despite Cavill being the target of jokes from his former employer, Deadpool also took a jab at Marvel’s competitor by teasing Cavill that he would receive better treatment at Marvel than “those incompetent individuals down the street.”
Despite uncertainty about whether the actor will reprise his role as Wolverine in the near future, fans can rest assured that Cavill is willing to do whatever it takes to fully embody the X-Men leader.
