The impact of Toji on Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen

The creator of Jujutsu Kaisen has revealed that Toji had an unexpected impact on Geto.

In the Official Guide Book for Jujutsu Kaisen, author Gege Akutami provided answers to fan questions, including one regarding Geto’s tendency to refer to non-sorcerer humans as “monkeys”and whether this behavior was influenced by Toji Fushiguro.

During the Hidden Inventory Arc, Toji emerged victorious over Suguru Geto after apparently defeating Satoru Gojo, the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer of the current era. It was at this moment that Toji famously remarked, “But you all, with your exceptional abilities, were defeated by someone like me who lacks the ability to use Jujutsu.”

After losing his trust in the Jujutsu system and succumbing to his hatred for non-sorcerers, Geto started referring to them as “monkeys”. A fan took the chance to inquire about the author’s intentions, given the timing and specific word choice, which was then shared on X through a fan post.

The author of Jujutsu Kaisen confirmed that Geto was indeed influenced by Toji to refer to non-sorcerers as “monkeys.”He also disclosed that Geto learned the phrase subconsciously from the Sorcerer Killer as Toji had said it while Geto was asleep.

This small detail further emphasizes Toji’s significance in the story. Despite his brief appearance, his impact is crucial throughout. He played a crucial role in Gojo’s awakening of his true power and also informed him about Megumi.

Additionally, his actions had a profound effect on Geto’s story. The murder of Riko Amanai by Toji altered the trajectory of Geto’s existence. Though it remains one of the most tragic deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen, it served as the catalyst for Geto’s deep-seated animosity towards non-sorcerers. This animosity ultimately drove him to become a curse-user and commit countless atrocities against non-sorcerers.
