Terrifier 3 is set to hit screens next week, and writer-director Damien Leone has shared the Robert Zemeckis TV episode that served as inspiration for his highly anticipated horror sequel.
The latest chapter in Art the Clown’s saga premiered at Fantastic Fest in September, receiving rave reviews. According to our Terrifier 3 review:
“With a larger budget to work with – and thus a broader canvas – Damien Leone has created a slasher film for the ages, solidifying Art’s status alongside icons like Freddy, Michael, and Jason.”
The new installment takes place during Christmas, featuring Art committing his gruesome acts while dressed as Santa Claus. During the film’s post-screening Q&A, Leone disclosed the specific horror TV show episode that inspired his latest project.

“One of my favorite sub-genres within horror is Christmas horror,” Leone explained. “Specifically, the Christmas-themed shorts from Tales from the Crypt.”
“I particularly love the Robert Zemeckis episode from the 1990s, which is a remake of a segment from the 1970s. I appreciate both equally. It strikes the perfect balance between horror and Christmas, making it a significant source of inspiration.”
The Tales From the Crypt episode Leone refers to originally aired on June 10, 1989, titled ‘And All Through the House.’ This chilling story revolves around a woman who murders her husband, only to become the target of an escaped mental patient masquerading as Santa.

This episode features performances by Larry Drake and Mary Ellen Trainor and is loosely inspired by a segment in the 1972 film Tales From the Crypt, where Joan Collins faces off against a deranged Claus.
During the same Q&A, Leone mentioned another festive influence on Terrifier 3, stating: “Naturally, there are numerous homages to Black Christmas throughout this film.”
Mark your calendars, as Terrifier 3 is set to be released on October 11.
