The Inspiration for Elden Ring DLC’s Infamous Boss Comes from a Dark Souls 2 Creature

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC’s ultimate boss has been plaguing players since its release, but little did they know that they had already faced it over ten years ago. The boss’s animations were first introduced in Dark Souls 2, and this article will contain spoilers for Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring is filled with a diverse array of enemies and bosses, which prompted FromSoftware to draw from its vast collection of games for inspiration. As a result, some familiar monster animations were repurposed in order to streamline the development process. For example, the Omenkiller’s movements may be reminiscent of the Capra Demon from Dark Souls.

In a surprising discovery, it has been revealed that the primary boss in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC utilizes animations from a previous game. A thread on the Elden Ring Reddit has confirmed that Promised Consort Radahn is essentially a swifter incarnation of Dark Souls 2’s Headless Vengarl.

THIS GUY HAD RADAHN’S MOVESET A DECADE AGO? byu/XumetaXD inEldenring

One user reminisced, “I recall having a difficult time with this guy, but it seems so much easier now.”Another user remarked, “I finally understand why I didn’t enjoy Radahn’s fight. It unconsciously brought back memories of DS2.”

Despite this design choice, fans do not harbor hatred towards FromSoftware. As one user pointed out, the use of two large scimitars limits the variety of attacks available – swinging one, both, or both simultaneously. Another user also questioned the potential for different attacking methods with two massive swords.

“One user summarized, “I believe this has consistently been the weakest aspect of their games. In each game, there are multiple bosses with identical movesets. In Elden Ring, this is intensified as they reuse several bosses and simply add some elemental AOE infusion.”

The contrast between Promised Consort Radahn and this enemy in Dark Souls 2 highlights the significant variations in enemy design throughout the series. Radahn’s exceptional speed, agility, and ability to cover vast distances make even a recycled enemy a formidable opponent.

Despite the significance of Elden Ring’s DLC final boss, it is unexpected that they did not receive a completely original set of moves. However, it is understandable as there are limitations to what can be done with double sword swings. Additionally, Radahn’s moveset is not solely composed of reused moves, especially with the addition of Miquella. Regardless of whether or not moves are reused, defeating them is still a daunting task.
