The Lady and the Dragon has just landed on Netflix: here is a guide to the different characters in the new fantasy film.
Netflix has just offered its new baby to its subscribers: The Lady and the Dragon, or Damsel in the original version, has been available on the streaming platform since March 8. We are presented with a story straight out of a fairy tale, but which deviates from the usual pattern of the young girl saved by a brave knight.
Damsels in distress have had their day in cinema, and the platform’s feature film is part of a long list of productions presenting an independent heroine. Elodie, a resourceful young lady but daughter of a lord too poor to provide for the needs of his subjects, must marry a prince. Everything seems perfect, but beneath the gilding of this rich union, the young girl will quickly discover the terrible secret of the royal lineage.
Millie Bobby Brown is obviously not the only one to play the sword in The Maiden and the Dragon: here are the main characters and their interpreters in the new fantasy film from Netflix.

Elodie: Millie Bobby Brown
Millie Bobby Brown plays Elodie, a young woman with an iron will who finds herself trapped in a fake marriage intended to make her a sacrifice for a dragon.
The actress is best known for her role as Eleven on Stranger Things, currently filming its fifth and final season. She has also starred in other Netflix projects like the Enola Holmes franchise.
Lord Bayford: Ray Winstone
Ray Winstone plays Lord Bayford, father of Elodie and lord of barren lands which will not survive the winter without outside help. Torn between his duty to his people and his paternal love, he ends up accepting the marriage proposal between his daughter and Prince Henry.
Ray Winstone has a prolific career in cinema, including for renowned directors: we can find him in The Departed by Martin Scorsese, or The Legend of Beowulf for Robert Zemeckis. More recently, Netflix subscribers will be able to see him in the series The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie.
Lady Bayford: Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett plays Lady Bayford, Elodie’s stepmother. Linked above all by the young girl’s father, they nevertheless have a frank relationship, and Lady Bayford is reluctant to leave the young lady alone with the royal family, of whom she distrusts.
Angela Bassett has a gigantic CV in the field of cinema and television, having participated in iconic works such as Black Panther, American Horror Story and 9-1-1.
Floria: Brooke Carter
Floria is Elodie’s little sister, whom she admires and whose footsteps she hopes to one day be able to follow in her footsteps.
Floria is played by Brooke Carter in The Lady and the Dragon. The young actress is not her first attempt, since she has previously appeared in series like The Alienist, Close to Me or Peripherals, The Worlds of Flynne.
Reine Isabelle: Robin Wright
Robin Wright plays Queen Isabelle, head of the royal family, responsible for ensuring that Elodie submits to marriage.
Robin Wright is best known for her role as Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump, but she can also be seen in other projects such as Millennium: Men Who Didn’t Love Women and House of Cards.
Prince Henry: Nick Robinson
Nick Robinson plays Henry, the prince and son of Queen Isabella, who uses his charm and his pretty face to convince Elodie to agree to marry him without asking too many questions.
Nick Robinson came to prominence in 2010 when he was cast as Ryder Scanlon in the popular comedy series Melissa & Joey, but he is best known for his starring role as Simon Spier in the film Love, Simon.
With a dragon: Shohreh Aghdashloo
It’s in the title: in front of the young lady, there is a dragon! And it’s actress Shohreh Aghdashloo who lends her impressive voice in the original version.
Shohreh Aghdashloo also has a long career on both the small and big screens, and one of her most impactful roles is undoubtedly the one she has in the series The Expanse.
The Lady and the Dragon has been available on Netflix since March 8, 2024.
