The Last of Us Fans Outraged as Showrunner Claims Season 2 Won’t Be a Complete Story

As we eagerly anticipate the release of The Last of Us Season 2, there are some fans who have voiced their worries about showrunner Craig Mazin’s vision for future seasons.

The first season of The Last of Us has garnered widespread critical acclaim, largely due to the show’s dedication to faithfully adapting the source material.

Despite this dedication, it is possible that it could have a negative impact on the show. Mazin has stated that the show will cover several seasons, including Season 2, which will focus on the divisive sequel to the franchise.

Mazin stated to Deadline that the events of The Last of Us Part 2 may extend until Season 4. He mentioned that they are not rushing and exploring different storylines, as seen in Season 1. Therefore, they do not believe they can finish the story within just two seasons (Seasons 2 and 3).

Mazin expressed, “We are confident that as long as our viewership continues and we are able to produce more episodes, Season 3 will most likely be much bigger. Additionally, the narrative may call for a Season 4.”

While some fans were undoubtedly thrilled about the possibility of spending more time with Joel and Ellie, others were disappointed by the idea that Season 2 may not have a conclusive storyline.

“According to some fans on X/Twitter, extending the season would have been a viable solution. One fan pointed out that the first game was rushed while the second game was slowed down, causing confusion and dissatisfaction.”

A third fan speculated that the show may be waiting for the release of The Last of Us Part 3, developed by Naughty Dog, so that it can be adapted quickly for television. They believe the show is deliberately being drawn out and will coincide with the release of TLOU3.

It appears that many of the viewers are frustrated because The Last of Us Part 2 offers approximately 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, varying depending on the player’s speed and frequency of play.

The showrunners face a significant challenge with the dual storyline structure of The Last of Us Part II, which allows players to experience the perspectives of multiple characters.

Fans will have the opportunity to discover if Mezin’s dream of four seasons will come true in 2025, with the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2.
