Finally, Gamescom 2024 has come to a close, bringing a sense of relief to hardworking games journalists around the globe who can now relax and take a break.
Despite the event being over, fans will always remember the excitement of the Gamescom Opening Night Live announcements, the thrilling news that was shared, and the constant chatter about the WoW ride (our editor hasn’t stopped raving about it since returning from the event).
We apologize if your preferred choice was not included, however, we have diverse preferences!
Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 is due to release in 2025.
Despite its chaotic energy and distinct sense of humor, the Borderlands franchise remains one of the most iconic looter shooters.
Despite not reaching the level of iconic status achieved by Handsome Jack (arguably one of the greatest video game characters of all time), the main antagonists in 3 were still impressive. Additionally, the gunplay was unparalleled and we can expect even greater improvements in the next installment of the mainline series.
The reveal trailer for Borderlands 4 has already shown some exciting easter eggs, giving fans plenty to look forward to as they explore a brand new planet. As a Vault Hunter, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of the hunt, and I’m eagerly anticipating what 2K has in store for this highly anticipated game. Curious to learn more about it?

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
From the many new announcements at Gamescom, it was Lost Records: Bloom & Rage that left a lasting impression on me. This adventure, which combines elements of Life is Strange and As Duck Falls, reunites four former friends and bandmates after 27 years to confront the dark secrets that tore them apart.
Despite only having seen the trailer, it is clear that Lost Records, created by Don’t Nod, the same team behind the beloved adventure Life is Strange, will be both visually stunning and emotionally impactful. Needless to say, we are eagerly anticipating its release on February 18, 2025, as the touching story portrayed in the trailer only adds to our excitement.

At Gamescom, we received our most comprehensive preview yet of the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred expansion. This included a detailed exploration of the new Spiritborn class (see our editor’s thoughts on playing as the Spiritborn here), a closer look at the revamped jungles of Kurast, and an introduction to the thrilling new Mercenary characters who will join us on our journey.
Along with the release of Season 6, Vessel of Hatred will introduce fresh game modes like the Undercity. The most thrilling aspect is that the DLC will further the narrative of Diablo 4, introducing additional story quests and destinations to discover as Mephisto returns to spread his malevolent influence.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Truthfully, I never anticipated writing about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. My initial plan was to praise Space Marine 2, but circumstances have led me here. After viewing the trailers, I could see the immense dedication put into creating an authentic experience for Indiana Jones enthusiasts. However, after reading our Great Circle preview, my excitement has only grown.
I believe that the key to successfully adapting a character for video games is to fully embody and connect with that character. This is evident in the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and it appears that the Bethesda team recognized this concept when creating Great Circle. Perhaps my eagerness for a satisfying Indiana Jones game after the disappointment of Dial of Destiny is influencing my excitement for the release of this game later in the year.

Infinity Nikki
I am delighted to have Infinity Niki as a game that I can dedicate my time to. It is a refreshing and calming option amidst the onslaught of horror and FPS games scheduled for the upcoming months. The app’s charming storyline and dress-up mini games made for an addictive mobile experience.
This is the type of cozy game that I would prefer to buy outright, rather than rely on microtransactions. Once it is released, I plan on immersing myself in the game for countless hours, discovering new areas, acquiring adorable outfits, and relishing in the vibrant, lively ambiance.

Best Ride to Enjoy in Your Favorite Game
I am eager to experience the World of Warcraft ride once more…
These words are attributed to Patrick Dane, although he did not actually write them. I wrote them instead, but they are likely what he would have written.
We Harvest Shadows
We Harvest Shadows adds an element that I believe has been lacking in the farming simulation genre: a feeling of overwhelming dread. Despite my enjoyment of cozy games, there is an irresistible draw to We Harvest Shadows, which has been coined an “anti-cozy game”by its sole creator, David Wehle. This farming horror allegory places players in the role of Garrett, a man who has chosen to isolate himself from society by living on a deserted farm.
In addition to the typical farming and construction duties you would anticipate in a game of this nature, there is also a sinister narrative.
A preview of We Harvest Shadows became available on Steam after its announcement at the Opening Night Live pre-show, and I am eagerly anticipating diving into the game.
The words are written by Noelle Corbett.
