It’s no secret that Season 12 Episode 6 of When Calls the Heart brought a thrilling cameo that fans have been eagerly awaiting. While we don’t want to spoil the surprise, there’s definitely hope for future appearances from this character.
After more than a decade on air, the show continues to introduce both familiar faces and new residents in the charming town of Hope Valley. We see heiress Ava stepping into a role akin to Elizabeth, and Edie emerging as a fresh love interest for Lucas. Such dynamics keep the narrative engaging and vibrant.
However, the show has also experienced its share of departures. Elizabeth’s first husband, Jack, has been absent since Season 5, and Jeanette exited the scene hastily after her faux gangster identity was revealed—perhaps a fortunate turn of events for the community.
The Future of Melissa Gilbert’s Character in Season 12
In the latest episodes, Melissa Gilbert’s character, Georgie McGill, has become a prominent figure within the ongoing storyline of When Calls the Heart. Depending on how her plot unfolds, she may continue beyond her initial two-episode stint.

Here’s a brief recap of Episode 6:
Nathan enlists the help of forensic specialist Inspector Georgie McGill to investigate a case involving a double coin. The pair updates her on their findings related to Toddy Davis and the Garrison connection.
As the train heads towards the jail, we gain insights into Bill and Georgie’s past. Their history reveals that they both trained together, with Bill notably looking beyond Georgie’s gender—although it seems this somewhat drove Georgie “crazy.”
Bill’s relationship with Georgie is poised to introduce an element of “unrequited” love into the narrative, though the specifics of this development are yet to be divulged. Actor Jack Wagner hinted at this connection, stating, “My character Bill has a history with her. Nathan and I walk into the jail and she turns around to work with Nathan… and all of a sudden, boom. We get to peel back the history in the next half of the season.”

Considering Georgie’s involvement in a significant investigation, along with her ties to the police, it seems likely that we will see her again. She has established personal links within Hope Valley through Bill, while her professional rapport with Nathan is evolving.
Interestingly, Gilbert herself expressed enthusiasm about potentially returning for Season 13. In a recent interview with The Edify Show, she shared her optimism: “That would be delightful, I will keep my fingers crossed. We’ve had this conversation in my family and I said ‘Guys, are we all down if this happens and I go back?’ and everybody said ‘Go go go!’”
