The 2024 winter season is not over, and yet many excellent anime seem to have fallen by the wayside: we are giving you a list of animated series that deserve more recognition.
Mashle, Solo Leveling, Classroom of the Elite… There was no shortage of good anime for the start of 2024. Between sequels eagerly awaited by spectators or original creations like BUCCHIGIRI?! from the MAPPA studio, there were enough beautiful things to get your teeth into.
But certain series have nevertheless gone unnoticed. It’s inevitable: you can’t see everything, and big boxes tend to overshadow more modest productions. We decided to do them justice, with this list of the most underrated anime of the winter 2024 season.
The Witch and the Beast
The Witch and the Beast is an intriguing anime that recently debuted. Mystery, action and a complex and captivating story: this is what awaits spectators who come to follow the adventures of Guideau, a slightly wild girl and Ashaf, a seemingly calm man carrying a coffin everywhere with him.
When this extraordinary duo sets foot in a town worshiping a witch, they don’t let themselves be led by the end of their noses. Because the spellcaster is not so benevolent, and they know it best.
Sasaki and Peeps
Sasaki, a tired office worker, buys a pet bird one day… only to discover that it is actually a powerful mage capable of traveling (and taking him) to a fantasy world.
Far from being moved by this isekai side in which he finds himself immersed, Sasaki sees it as a golden opportunity to live a quiet life… but ends up attracting a little too much attention.
Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp
Inspired by the manhwa of the same name, the story follows Elise, who has lived several lives: first a tyrannical empress condemned to death after being too harsh, she was reincarnated in Japan in the skin of Aoi Takamoto. Wishing to rectify her mistakes and make amends, she goes into medicine to save lives. She then becomes a renowned surgeon… but a plane crash puts an end to her ambitions.
She then finds herself once again in the world of Elise de Clorance, and finds her very first family. But this time, there is no question of being cruel and ruining everything: rather than seeking the power and the heart of the prince, she will once again be a doctor.
Mr. Villain’s Day Off
This Winter 2024 anime follows Warumono-san, a member of the Evil League whose mission is to invade Earth and eliminate humanity. However, even a strange being like him needs to rest.
When a break is needed between several evil acts, Mr. Bad Guy goes to see pandas at the zoo, buys ice cream and enjoys a peaceful life. Clearly, seeing a supervillain appreciate the little things in life will amuse – and move? – the viewers.
A Sign of Affection
A Sign of Affection adapts the manga of the same name. It is about managing disabilities within different relationships, including romantic ones. Here, it is the heroine who is hard of hearing, recalling certain situations from A Silent Voice.
This light romantic comedy centers on Yuki Itose, a student. The girl rarely interacts with others, except with her best friend, Rin Fujishiro. But his life will begin to change after meeting Itsuomi Nagi, Rin’s friend.
