Pokémon Scarlet & Purple players have taken to social media to share some of the “funniest” ways they’ve found to unearth rare shiny monsters.
Hunting for shinys in Pokémon games has been a tradition for many fans since the concept was first introduced in Generation 2.
Although the method of hunting shinies has changed quite dramatically in Pokémon Scarlet & Purple, the activity is still relevant today – with some fans even preferring the changes made in Gen 9.
Thanks to the way shiny encounters work in Paldea, some fans have found these monsters in unexpected ways, as evidenced by players exposing the “funniest”ways they’ve found shiny ones.
Pokémon Scarlet & Purple fans share “funniest” shiny encounters
A post on the Pokémon Scarlet & Purple subreddit sparked discussion among fans after a player created a thread titled, “I’m an avid shiny hunter. This is the funniest way I found a shiny.”

The post included a video of a trainer jumping off an extremely high cliff while riding Koraidon and diving into the ocean below. Just before they hit the water, a Fulgulairo flight appears with the player landing on a shiny variant.
The author explained, “I found this clip a year ago. I was working on my hunt for all the shiny birds and managed to nuke poor Fulgulairo.”
Fans in the comments loved the clip and shared their own stories about the funniest ways they’ve encountered shiny Pokémon.
“I jumped into the Lighted Maze in Indigo Disc for the first time and landed directly on a Scrutella marked shiny lol I couldn’t believe it,” said one lucky trainer.
Another fan shared a similar encounter and said, “I did something similar when Turquoise Mask came out, there was a Maraist outbreak and I was like ‘I wonder if there’s a shiny over there’ was the area with all the water and the thorny mountains. I jumped and landed next to a shiny Maraist.”
Considering the base chance of getting a shiny is 1/4096 in Pokémon Scarlet & Purple, some of these trainers seem pretty lucky indeed.
