The Nature of Yuji’s Domain Could Be the Key to Saving Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen

The release of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264 on July 29, 2024 featured Yuji’s domain expansion. While the chapter did not provide any information on its workings and nature, fans are confident that the protagonist is now capable of defeating Sukuna. However, it is believed that this plan may unfold in an unexpected manner, contrary to what the fandom anticipates.

The Malevolent Shrine is a powerful domain expansion that allows the King of Curses to use a technique known as “world-cutting dismantle”to slash through the entire world. In comparison, Itadori’s cursed technique is not as advanced as the antagonist’s, so he is only able to use it on smaller objects. In this case, he uses it on a person’s body to separate their soul into two parts, freeing Megumi from Sukuna’s control.

Following Sukuna’s victory over Hana and Aoi, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264 turns its attention to Itadori. He pursues Sukuna and launches a surprise attack, slamming him into a nearby building before unleashing his domain expansion.

Sukuna, now in possession of his reverse-cursed technique, understands that Yuji’s Shrine can only manipulate the connection between souls, unlike his own which has the power to control the entire world. The chapter concludes with both characters being transported to Yuji’s domain, a train station.

Both Yuji and Sukuna possess the cursed technique, Shrine, which enables its user to cut through living and non-living beings. This technique is known to be one of the most basic yet deadly techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. The only distinction between their techniques is that Yuji’s is still in its early stages of development, having only awakened a few chapters ago.

Despite this, Ryomen Sukuna has fully mastered his cursed technique and possesses extensive knowledge about it. As a result, how might this disparity impact the protagonist’s ability to utilize their own domain expansion in comparison to Ryomen Sukuna?

Although Yuji’s domain is still developing, it is likely that it will be significantly weaker and less distinctive than Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. While Sukuna’s domain knows no bounds and extends nearly 200 meters from the antagonist, destroying everything in its path, Yuji’s domain will likely have more limitations and be less powerful in comparison.

Despite the protagonist’s domain being limited and less powerful in terms of its slashing ability, these characteristics are justifiable given that it is not as strong as Sukuna’s. However, the main distinction between their domains may lie in their intended targets.

Sukuna’s ‘world-slashing dismantle’ is capable of targeting the entire world and producing a massive slash that can defeat even the strongest opponents, similar to how he successfully struck down Gojo Satoru during their battle for supremacy.

Yuji plans to weaken the connection between Sukuna, who is currently inhabiting Megumi’s soul, and Megumi himself. He speaks to Megumi, who has lost hope, and intends to use his domain expansion to sever the link between them. This action could result in either Sukuna’s immediate death by separating him from his vessel, or in reducing him back to only having twenty fingers.
