The next Battlefield game should feature a free-to-play Battle Royale

The next Battlefield game is rumored to include a free-to-play Battle Royale mode, as the developers aim to shake up the franchise in a significant way.

Battlefield is one of the most popular FPS franchises and is positioned as the main competitor to Call of Duty. The series was notable for its realistic gameplay, focus on war and, of course, destruction.

However, the series has failed to reach its previous heights, with Battlefield 2042’s release in 2021 being heavily criticized by fans for its lack of content, numerous bugs and more.

Despite this, the anticipation for the next installment is very real and is only intensifying with recent rumors indicating that the new installment will include a free Battle Royale mode.

Battle Royale mode has gained popularity thanks to games like Fortnite, Apex Legends or Warzone, among others. So, many other major FPS franchises, such as Halo, are working to develop a unique Battle Royale experience for fans to immerse themselves in.

And as first reported by Insider Gaming, the next Battlefield game is set to introduce battle royale to the franchise, with this game mode also going to be free for fans.

The announced free-to-play Battle Royale mode will follow in Warzone’s footsteps and launch alongside the base game. Regarding the game’s setting, Insider Gaming also reported that the next Battlefield game will take place in modern times, potentially around 2025-2030.

Despite rumors that a new Battle Royale mode is planned for Battlefield, Insider Gaming also noted that the franchise aims to “return to its roots”with this new approach.

We will of course keep you informed of all the latest news from Battlefield and its future Battle Royale mode.
