The Pedro trend on TikTok and the Viral Raccoon Dance

A viral TikTok video has captured a raccoon dancing to an EDM remix of the song Pedro, sparking a new trend where pets are featured in dance videos.

Despite TikTok’s reputation for creating numerous dance fads and featuring a variety of filters, there is one type of content that will always remain in demand – videos showcasing animals.

You never know what the next animal video will be about, from the made-up blue smurf cat that went viral as a meme on the app in 2023, to a dog named Dobby going viral for knowing Harry Potter spells.

Despite the current popularity of animal trends on the app, there is one in particular that stands out: the “Pedro”trend. This trend originated from a Raccoon named Ginger, who has since become a viral sensation.

Exploring the “Peter Peter Peter” TikTok trend

The raccoon, who initially shared a video that has now been watched over 11 million times, has gained popularity on TikTok as he introduced a new trend for pets.

The clip, which was initially shared in September 2023, gained widespread attention on TikTok in late March 2024 and also gained traction on YouTube and Instagram.

The video features a raccoon, named Ginger, who has been placed in the center of a spinning circle format camera. In the footage, Ginger appears to be dancing along to the background song, which is an EDM remix of Raffaella Carrà’s “Pedro.”The camera movements give the illusion that Ginger is dancing to the beat of the music.

More than two million videos featuring the song have been produced, with the majority showcasing content creators mimicking Pedro’s popular trend alongside their pets.

Among the many pets who participated in the trend, one dog named Josephine stood out and received over 94.3 million views on her video.

Similar to the Josh Hutcherson trend from the previous year, Ginger’s dancing video has now spread from being viewed solely on phone screens to being watched on any device with a circular cutout.

The TikTok video posted by user kevorellana95, showcasing a dancing raccoon as a live wallpaper on their smartwatch, has garnered 13.7 million views and 1.2 million likes since its upload on April 12.
