The developers at Redfall were in the process of creating a major update, as part of their roadmap to support the struggling game, when Microsoft made the unexpected decision to close down Arkane Austin, along with other recently acquired studios.
On May 7, Microsoft made the surprising decision to close down a number of its studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin, known for developing games such as Hi-Fi Rush and Redfall.
Arcane’s Redfall was met with a highly unfavorable response upon its release in 2023, as numerous negative reviews highlighted issues with its gameplay and numerous bugs. Despite this, Arcane had made a commitment to address these concerns by providing updates that would address problems such as the absence of an offline mode and limited content.
Despite the developers actively working on new major updates for Redfall, the studio’s shutdown has resulted in the cancellation of all progress.

According to an article from IGN, the studio’s closure occurred while Redfall’s “roadmap of support”was still in progress.
According to sources at IGN, an offline mode that had been highly requested was in development and planned to be released in Redfall’s May update. However, with the disbandment of the team, fans can no longer anticipate this update.
Moreover, a Halloween release was planned for supplemental material, such as a Hero Pass that would introduce two additional characters to the shooter game.
As a result of the studio shutting down, Arkane has declared that Redfall players who have bought the Hero Pass will be entitled to receive in-game credits worth the same amount as their purchase.
Despite the closures, Arkane made a guarantee that Redfall’s servers will continue to operate, although the duration of their availability is uncertain.
