The Pokemon Sleep World Championship is the Only Tournament I Could Ever Win

Pokemon enthusiasts were greeted with an intriguing YouTube notification this morning: the official Pokemon YouTube channel announced the first ever Pokemon Sleep World Champions Tournament. Despite the numerous VGC and TCG tournaments, this one seems like something even I could excel in! However, I must be realistic – my sleep schedule is not consistent enough to compete with the likes of this year’s participants and achieve the sleeping grandeur.

This year’s participants include Siestar, Napninja, Lullababy, Midnight Slumber, and zzz. The competition was tight, with Midnight Slumber making a strong recovery from his slow start thanks to his impressive Imposing Sleep sleep style. However, the competition is not decided until the Jigglypuff sings. Kenny Mattress and Chris Pillow’s commentary is outstanding, but be sure to also watch the official Japanese Pokemon YouTube video featuring some inspirational words from the competitors (in English).

For those interested in preparing for next year’s tournament, the official Pokemon website offers helpful tips on how to fall asleep quickly and rest well. These tips include counting Mareep or Wooloo, drinking a warm cup of Moomoo Milk before bed (in moderation), and listening to soothing music. The Japanese Pokemon YouTube channel also recently uploaded music collections for Ruby and Sapphire, as well as FireRed and LeafGreen. These could be played before going to bed to help induce sleep, but there is no guarantee that your dreams will be peaceful when the videos reach the intense themes of Mt. Pyre or Lavender Town.

Despite the initial disbelief, you’re not alone in thinking that this must be a dream: Pokemon’s cleverly ridiculous idea for April Fools’ Day in 2024. However, the essence of Pokemon lies in turning dreams into reality and the thrill of competition. While only one Trainer can earn the title of Pokemon Sleep World Champion annually, if we all prioritize a good night’s rest, we all come out as winners.
