The Sapphire Collector has helped catapult the legendary Power Nine back into the spotlight in MTG Arena’s latest Alchemy format.
Despite 30 years passing, Magic’s Power Nine remains a notorious aspect of the game. These nine cards, which were originally printed in Magic’s Alpha set, continue to command exorbitant prices due to their immense power and inclusion on MTG’s no-reprint Reserved List.
The upcoming release of a card set on MTG Arena will grant players the ability to add one of the Power Nine – Mox Sapphire – to their hand through a feasible method. Although some MTG players may desire the ability to conjure Power Nine cards out of thin air, the Sapphire Collector will remain exclusive to MTG Arena.
Mox Sapphire is highly esteemed for its ability to serve as a mana ramp at no cost. By adding another source of blue mana to the field, it enables players to swiftly gain a mana advantage over their opponents without impeding their actions for the remainder of the turn.
In Outlaws of Thunder Junction, utilizing the new plot mechanic and the ability of Sapphire Collector to grant flashback to an Instant or Sorcery of your choice makes it easy to create a Mox Sapphire by casting two noncreature spells in a single turn.
The potential of Sapphire Collector to become overwhelming is mitigated by its restriction of only being able to produce one mox per turn.
Thunder Junction’s newest release, Alchemy, will debut on May 7th. This exclusive format, available only in the Arena, introduces online-exclusive cards with innovative designs and mechanics. The success of Outlaws of Thunder Junction, with its enjoyable draft format and plethora of impactful new cards, has players eagerly anticipating what Alchemy has in store for this Wild West realm.
