The Power of Mereoleona in Black Clover’s Awakening Arc

Mereoleona Vermillion and Paladin Moris Libardirt’s fight came to an end in Black Clover chapter 371. While it seemed that Moris would emerge victorious, Mereoleona managed to turn the tables just in the nick of time.

Mereoleona’s recent triumph can largely be attributed to her most recent spell, Ultimate Flame Magic: Excelicitus Leonum. This powerful incantation not only enabled her to transcend her human limitations, but also to call upon her fallen comrades to join her in battle. Does this suggest that Mereoleona Vermillion now possesses the ability to bring the deceased back to life?

In Black Clover chapter 371, it was revealed that Mereoleona Vermillion has the ability to resurrect her deceased allies. By continuously using Hellfire Incarnate, Mereoleona can activate Ultimate Flame Magic: Excelicitus Leonum, which allows her to transcend humanity and transform her body into mana.

During this process, she has the ability to revive her companions and convert their bodies into mana. As depicted in the manga, Mereoleona’s subordinates preserved their individual identities and recollections even after their deaths. This was apparent through their obedience to her orders and their immediate loyalty, despite having been revived just moments prior.

The revived Crimson Lions Magic Knights accompanied Mereoleona in the battle against Paladin Moris’ forces, which were created by the “March of Holy Fools”incantation. It was noted that they had gained greater power and were able to cast their spells in forms other than fire.

Based on the evidence presented, it can be concluded that Mereoleona possesses the ability to resurrect the deceased. However, she did make a statement that suggests otherwise. Upon the resurrection of the Crimson Lions, they displayed confusion and disbelief, indicating that their return may not have been expected.

Upon receiving a response, Mereoleona Vermillion replied:

“Even if you die, follow me…you fools!!!!”

This conversation suggests that the resurrected Crimson Lions remained deceased. Although they may possess the ability to move and use magic, they could still be deceased and merely manifest as spirits through the use of mana.

With this possibility in mind, it is highly probable that once Mereoleona deactivates her spell, the resurrected Crimson Lions will return to their deceased state.

However, even if fans view Mereoleona Vermillion as a modern take on the mythological Phoenix, her ability to revive her comrades still holds significance. Moris’ mention of “flames of resurrection”upon witnessing Mereoleona’s newfound power provides evidence for this interpretation.

If the spell truly grants her the power to permanently revive the deceased, there will likely be limitations similar to those faced by Asta with his Anti-Magic.

Just like how Asta can only share his anti-magic attribute with those he is deeply connected to, it is possible that Mereoleona Vermillion’s Ultimate Flame Magic: Excelicitus Leonum also operates under the same principle. This means that she may only be able to revive those who were close to her. Therefore, although the magic spell may seem incredibly powerful, it could still have its restrictions.
