It has been revealed that IU has emerged as the top candidate in the trend index for female solo singers during the 1st week of May, prompting discussions about her potential dominance over BLACKPINK’s popularity. This latest development has sparked curiosity about IU’s increasing influence in the music industry.
According to the most recent rankings released on May 9, IU has secured the top spot in the trend index for female solo singers. The data, gathered by Rankify, takes into account elements such as keyword search volume and Google Trend scores from the previous week.
With 11,379 points, IU’s ranking at the summit showcases her continuous popularity and widespread acknowledgement.
BLACKPINK’s Lisa and BIBI claimed the second and third positions with 8,468 and 8,333 points, respectively, making them the closest contenders to the top spot. It is worth mentioning that BLACKPINK’s Jennie was not far behind in fourth place, followed by rising star Kwon Eunbi, completing the top five.
Upon further examination, the analysis of gender preference reveals intriguing trends. Both males and females show a strong preference for IU, with 37% and 63% respectively. Lisa, on the other hand, is equally favored by both genders, while BIBI’s fanbase leans slightly towards males, with a 55% male and 45% female preference.
Examining the age group preferences reveals the wide appeal of IU. She attracts 13% of teenagers, 30% of individuals in their 20s, 24% of those in their 30s, 21% of those in their 40s, and still manages to capture 12% of those in their 50s, demonstrating a diverse fan base spanning multiple generations.
The latest comeback of IU has been a topic of discussion among Korean netizens, who have pointed out various reasons for its lukewarm reception. Some criticisms revolve around the mismatched song titles and lyrics, IU’s transformation from a beloved “little sister”image to a more trendy persona, and a departure from her original singing style.
Despite her efforts to gain international recognition, certain fans worry that she may inadvertently distance herself from her domestic audience. Some have proposed that she reconnect with her roots or find a way to blend her global ambitions with the preferences of her local fanbase.
