The anime adaptation of Negi Haruba’s rom-com manga series, The Quintessential Quintuplets, is based on the eponymous series that was originally published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2017. The manga ran until February 2020 and has sold over 20 million copies to date.

The anime adaptation, which first aired in 2019, consisted of 12 episodes. A second season, with only one cour, was broadcasted on local Japanese channels from January 2021 to March 2021. The plot of the anime centers around Futaro Uesugi, a high school student from a low-income family, who is given a tempting opportunity to become a part-time tutor.

Despite his initial excitement, Futaro is surprised to learn that the five students he will be tutoring are actually his classmates and quintuplets. Though they are all stunningly beautiful, he soon discovers that they have no interest in studying. This results in chaotic and unpredictable days for the young tutor.
